**Attention York County Dog & Cat Owners**
There are some proposed Animal Control Ordinances being suggested to
York County Council by some Local Animal Activists. They are asking for licensing of all dogs & cats, Mandatory Spay & Neuter of all dogs & cats with a huge fee for animals who are not spayed or neutered, & anti-tethering laws as well. This would have a huge impact on all animal owners in our area. York County Animal Owners please show your support AGAINST these suggestions to the county's animal control ordinance. The current Animal Control Ordinance was written with the animal’s welfare in mind & should be enforced before new laws are passed. Please contact the council men & let them know you are against the mandatory spay/neuter, the anti-tethering, & the high licensing fees for dogs or cats that are not spayed or neutered. We also need people to come out to the next York County Council meeting on April 5, 2010 at 6:00 pm. It is held at the Council Chambers, in the Agricultural Building, 6 S. Congress St., York, SC 29745. At the meeting representatives for responsible dog owners will speak opposing the anti-tethering. We prefer to regulate tethering, & educate the public so that tethering is done properly with the animal’s welfare in mind. Enforcing the current tethering ordinance would be appropriate. We will also address the Mandatory Spay/Neuter suggestion. There are several areas where this has passed; it proved to be unsuccessful & has raised costs for Animal Control. We also do not like the high license fees for animals that are not spayed or neutered. It is also has raises health issues for our animals if they are required to be spayed or neutered before maturity. *The traditional spay/neuter age of six months as well as the modern practice of pediatric spay/neuter appear to predispose dogs to health risks that could otherwise be avoided by waiting until the dog is physically mature, or (perhaps in the case of many male dogs) foregoing it altogether unless medically necessary.* Please contact (call, send a letter, fax, or email) the County Council Members & let them know you are opposed to the new recommendations for the Animal Control Ordinance. Also, please come out for the county council meeting on April 5th, 2010.
