For some reason, we were talking about this at a recent trial. My friend had heard a study that cats will start eating their owner after 24 hours and typically start with the face, where a dog may wait up to 2 weeks, and typically starts with limbs.
Another friend does rescue transfers and they had a case where the owner died, leaving behind 2 dogs. They figure it was about 10 days before the owner was found. One of the dogs had died, the other had JUST started consuming a leg of the owner.

Derek - one of the benefits of feeding raw...

Kit - are you in the legal profession?

I've been joking about this (sort of) with my husband...because we never had kids and over the years our family has dwindled....so I've been saying "I'm going to be that little old lady they find dead in her home a month later half eaten by her pack of 6 dogs". Then I added I should remember to write a note "My dogs are loving, wonderful animals - please find them good homes. They only ate me after I died and they were really hungry". I wonder if it says something about me that that scenario wouldn't really bother me...;) (Except for the part about worrying about my dogs - which I would actually have arrangements made for them in my will).

I would rather my dogs feast on me (assuming I am dead of course) than starve.
I also have a trust set up to provide for my crew (currently 4 dogs, a 100 pound African Spurred Tortoise and a talking Double Yellow Headed parrot) upon my passing.

Since the first month we got her my husband has been saying that Tonka would eat our faces off if we died! I always said that as long as we are dead then it is okay!

Nice touch in adding to the note that your dog is a really nice dog! I like that!

If something happens to you they'll probably use your money to neuter your dog!

Nope - the trust is VERY specific on what can, and cannot, occur and payments are made monthly to ensure compliance with my wishes. Blue's balls (haha blue balls) are safe!!!

Nope, I'm in the seafood business.

But, I can sort of see where you got that. Trial = agility trial. LOL
I have 2 friends that work at an animal shelter. One is the executive director, the other is their transport coordinator.

Haha - you would be surprised at the small talk that turns up in a legal "trial". I didn't even think of an agility "trial".

Trusty hopefully wouldn't eat me after my demise, because he is probably ... allergic to homo sapiens meat, since he seems to be allergic to a gazillion other items :p

Great idea! Along with detailed instructions of what substances he should avoid to pre-empt need for the Epi Pen. I better start now, it is a loooong list.
