So, i often work and train my two in the front yard, we are in town
    and surrounded by houses.
when i train Chimera i often use play beause she is more motivated by play
    especielly the flirt pole.
while playing with her in the yard and working on "leave it"
and 'take it" (leave it as the command-take it as the reward)
i happened to notice after about 15 minutes the neighbors staring
at us and couldnt figure out why untill i was falling asleep
last night-it COULD very easily look as if
im training Chimera for personal protection the way i tell
her to "release" and "get it/take it"

    SO, that got me wondering
Should i explain to them what im doing? or should i simply let them believe whatever it is
    they are believing?
on one hand, i like the idea of people being intimidated by her
having the idea she MAY be trained to protect me, while on the other hand
i worry that people may be fearful and assume she is dangerous.

do you ever not speak up and allow people to believe your dog could be protective?
or do you always make sure to let everyone know your dog is not like that at all?
    why or why not?

It's my dog-- I wouldn't feel the need to explain anything!

I wonder what my neighbors think when we play with the flirt pole!

If they ask, then tell them. But I wouldn't bring it up. Just because I really don't care if my neighbors are watching, I wouldn't even give it a second thought.

Hell, I processed 200# of raw meat in my driveway with neighbors walking by and staring. No one asked what I was doing and I didn't let them know. Let them think what they want. If they cared enough to ask, I'd gladly explain. In reality, I owe no one an explanation as to what I'm doing.

this! Unless they come up politely and respectfully showed curiousity I wouldnt explain shit
  6. No, I only bother explain to friends or family. Other people will likely believe whatever they want anyways. If they asked i would but I wouldn't go and just tell them.

I kinda just mind my business. If someone shows an interest in Veronica and wants to talk about her then I will...otherwise, I don't even assume I might know what people are thinking...because people can be damn strange.

Nope. I like few of my neighbors and know none of them well enough to step away from what I'm doing and assume they're wondering rather than just watching. I tried to teach my neighbor with a labrador how to play with her with a flirtpole, but they're lazy fucks and don't like to do much of anything.

I would never feel obligated to explain myself in a situation as that especially. I am just the type of individual to not really give a bloody damn what nosy people who take the time to watch me, think/speculate of as far as, whatever it is I am doing on my own property and nothing illegal to begin with.

I am the ONLY person in my rural neighbourhood that does anything with their dogs. I'm outside EVERY day working them, walking them and training them. I couldn't care less about their opinions of me if they have any....they are the ones that need to get off their lazy asses and spend time with their dogs.

i'd only answer if they asked. if not, no need to volunteer any thing! if they want to assume anything? well, you know how that one goes....

NO doubt, sometimes less is more! :sonn_u11:

Not to mention that the average person doesn't know jack about personal protection training and that it involves training to bite and release on command.

If someone asks what they're doing, I'll gladly tell them. If they don't bother to find out for themselves... Well... I frankly don't care if they're afraid of my dog or think I'm training him in alien abduction or something...

if they ask then tell but if not let them sit and wonder, its your yard, your dog and your business, if they are not going to question then don't go out of your way to answer the question.

Since I do WP and obedience in an open field by myself, I get a lot of weird looks. People that don't ask questions don't get any info from me. If someone asks a questions, I'll gladly answer. Otis has even made a couple of people pull over their cars and watch :)

In general people who care would come over and ask out of curiosity or concern and it's best to help educate the public. I find that if i explain in a way that helps people learn about my dog/s, they are quite grateful and complimentary. If they just sit there watching, I could careless but if they start distracting my dog/s, I will confront them and call the authorities if i'm on my property. I live across a public school and children of irresponsible parents are quite ill-mannered (parents included)
