To be a responsible owner you need a break stick, tread mills and spring poles=exsercise= healthy dog, not that complicated.

The APBT is NEVER a guardian breed.

I can give my dog plenty of exercise by walking, running, and agility thank you. I don't need to have poles and mills and everything else.
  4. i dont have a break stick but amen to the rest Trista.

Well don't assume someone is a dogfighter if they have them-thank you.

That was a use for the dog back then.

    Thanks O.Kennels.

Look, I wouldn't automatically assume that, but it may cross my mind. WHY? Because these ARE typical of someone that would be - you can't deny that.

Yes I can. And if my dog gets killed because some idiot calls the police just to start a witch hunt, you better believe I would be out for blood. It is people like you Trista, that will be the end of this breed.

The problem regarding the increased size of "pit bulls" today...when the first ones were bred here in the USA, they bred for a "slightly larger dog"...NOW, people have gone haywire. Since "the "pit=[]" has become illegal in the US, owners are either going to HAVE TO BREAK THE LAW and fight thier dogs to keep "game alive" ... OR ... owners are going to have to modify thier criteria and accept other means to "test" thier dogs. This might mean changing the terms from "Game" to "Sport" and "Gamebred" to "Sportbred or Workingbred". I highly doubt the [] will ever be legal again here.
  9. i dont think that trista is trying to say anything bad other than he/she found a way that they feel is better for them when it comes to working their animals. megs....clam down. When we lash out as owners it sometimes makes the image of the dog look bad too.

You need to cool off. WOW!
I never said that I would go reporting someone that had said items. And if you continued to read the responses I wrote I said that actually, a treadmill IS good for ANY breed of dog - I had responded before I had thought about it first.
Why would I be the end of a breed?
I have 5 dogs, all of whom I love very much and would never want to see a breed become extinct.

For someone who doesn't understand the need for breaksticks, springpoles, treadmills, and flirt poles and states that they wouldn't consider owning a game dog. You sure do seem to think you understand alot about the origin of this breed... First off the dog WAS developed SOLELY as a fighter. The Irish and other immigrants brought them over with them. The APBT.. by the way thats the American pitbull terrier.. was never developed to be a guard dog as they were not intended to be human aggressive. See it was a danger to have a human aggressive dog in the pit during a match.. (see you are in the pit with the dogs while they are fighting) See you couldn't have a dog chewing on one of the handlers...

its was never a bit of an unnamed breed there were arguements over what to call it but it wasn't an unnamed breed.

As I have stated before the dog was created to be the best pit fighter in the world... not a companion.. not a pet... but a FIGHTER... an athlete.. a gladiator... Everything that came with it as a result of being such a good fighter.. (i.e. being a great pet) is just icing on the cake. The only thing that was valued first was pit ability.

I can't agree. I think there are many other ways in which a dog can prove itself, one of which would be different agility sports.

I am very calm, but when someone comes on here, and starts dropping lies, I have to defend this breed. She did say someone that had the afore mentioned things is probably fighting there dogs.

Just out of curiosity, could you quote your sources? Because I have YET to read anything like that which you are describing. And I've got documents that were handwritten by those who helped to create and shape this breed, and they aren't documents you are going to find posted online on some "dogbreedprofile" type website.

Especially the part about a guard dog.

Hell, I honestly think you have the APBT and the American Bulldog confused.

And just what lies would I be dropping??

"Why in the world would you need to have spring polls, slat mills, treadmills, or breaksticks, if you weren't fighting your dogs??? I have none of these things...why would I need them??"
    That is what I said

Only to say in a following post that I can see the logic behind the treadmills.

Hm. So my friend, when she lived in Achorage, should've just "bucked up" and take her dogs out in -20 degree temps to run and do agility. Or I should just say "screw it", and put my boys in the stroller and take my dogs walking in hurricane winds and rain. Or how about when I fractured my femur and tore all the ligaments in my knee? Was I just a lazy faker by putting my dogs on the mill vs. taking them runnin? Oh, that's right, I had surgery and was in a leg immobilizer and on crutches. Boy, that would've been loads of fun.

And I've got to go. I need to call the cops on my neighbors because they are obviously training their cats to fight because they have flirt poles (yep, peeps, those fishing-line-looking-things with feathers on the end are indeed flirt poles). And my other neighbors play tug-of-war with their dogs, which is just a "incognito" way of working them on a springpole so I need to report them too.

Then change the name of these new dogs being produced and let the name "American Pit Bull Terrier" go down in history with the dogs. Don't ride the name of a historical breed all because it sounds cool.

Who says the breed has to be an an oversized crocodile? Breed among champion lines and to set standards of conformation (including size) and temperament. This does not seem like brain surgery.

Your previous post and omissions state that there is much for you to learn about the breed and it's historical purpose.

I know Simms and it's not people like her that give the breed a bad name. I learned alot from her posts on another forum, so before you insult someone, read their posts, and even if you don't agree, please respect it with an open mind and learn.
