I don't eat anything that once possesed a beating heart/functioning brain, that's my rule.

For SO many reasons; moral, political, health-related, etc.

Bransen, I can respect someone not wanting to eat meat, as long as, they don't try to force it upon me. I wouldn't force someone to eat meat, so, I don't want them to try to force me not to. :)

i was a vegetarian for 8 years- not because of the fact that it's living (in the heart beating sense) but because i'm against factory farming.

that's why i slaughter my own chickens (raised by a friend) and shoot my own deer and rabbits. that's pretty much the extent of the meat i eat, and it isn't much. but i know it had a nice life before i killed it, and i know that i killed it quickly and humanely, and that it didn't suffer.

I would never eat dog and it would be illegal in the USA anyways. lol I don't have an issue with other countries eatting their stock of dog they raise to eat. that is what they do, and there are pet dogs and feed dogs in those countries anyways. . . to be honest I would eat a horse before I ate a cat or a dog.:lol::lol::lol:

I wasn't trying to seem like a PETA douche or anything.

You see, I find nothing wrong with that.
I think if we did things the way they used back in the old farm and family days, then it would be fine.

I often use eggs from my aunts' farm cause I know her chickens are loved and cared for.
I'd drink her cows' milk, it the thought of milk itself didn't make me sick. lol

yeah, my friend's chickens are their pets. they get all my garden scraps that don't go to compost. they LOVE me. and i love their eggs! (it's also the same place i get my chicken from- needless to say, all they give me is roosters)

horses are meat too. the ones i cared for were all stupid. one of them wanted to kill me, even though i'd been feeding it for months.
    that's gotta be stupid.

You weren't. I meant in general, I don't want someone forcing me not to, i.e. pushing legislation. I didn't mean that I felt you were trying to force me to be Vegetarian or anything. :) It's all good.

Unfortunately to raise animals like they did in the "old days" it would cost too much and I don't think that it would be possible to keep up with the demands of consumers today plus it would drive up food prices.

Which is why I (and most of the people I am close to) choose not to consume it. :)

which is why my friend raises them- i pay for the feed for my share- then slaughter them myself. it's a bit more expensive, but i know what my food is eating.
i've got no idea what that factory farmed garbage eats, and i really don't want to know.
it's pretty common knowledge that cows in feedlots are fed just about anything, and i'm sure the same thing goes with chickens, as they'll literally eat ANYTHING- but the best things for them is bugs, veggie scraps, scratch and organic feed made from vegetable and animal products.

I'm lucky enough to be in a place with a lot of family farms, organic farms, co ops and friends who raise their own (including pigs and steers) so we pretty much eat organic from fruits and veggies to milk and eggs and meat (with venison in winter).

I will be raising my own food once my fiance and I get married and buy his mom's place - it's 7 acres plus the neighbor is going to let us rent his property which is another 5 acres I believe.

I think that if everyone farmed their own food, or got food from friends/family, that would be fantastic!
I look forward to having a farm someday.
I still wouldn't eat meat, though.
But that leaves room for a GIANT garden!

I would not eat dog meat (unless in a Donner party situation) - or horse or whale or cat or other primate... I would try rodents/nutria and snake - I have eaten kangaroo and alligator but have a real hard time conceptually with the thought of eating furry/intelligent carnivores (...or lovely horses)!

So....2 foreign nuns arrive into New York/insert city. First thing they do is set out to tour the area. As lunch time approaches, they spy a hot dog stand on a corner. One says to the other, "I've heard they eat dog over here... Let's try it." So they both order 2 hot dogs. One unwraps hers and turns to the other giggling and says, "Which part did you get?"

    :giggle:
