Unfortunately, it wouldn't be free, however it would be cheaper. I'm gauging interest before I decide to move forward with this project because it's looking like it will cost at least $1,500 to be completed (one bid for $2,200). It would also use more server resources, so if it gained popularity, we would need to move to multiple servers in order to support it and the site, which would also cost more.

I'm not sure about a final price (although it would be less than $35), but to begin with, it would be substantially cheaper and there would be multiple ways to gain access for free as well as discounted prices as incentives toward building the database.

Yes it would be great to have here, but when/who will decide if it will be any? =)

We, the admin of PBC will decide when! We have the program out to bid now and have 60 days to make a decision, that takes us into December. It will take a month or more for the program to be written, if we do decide on it, and that takes us to mid-February.

Cost is definately a factor here, as it could run up to $2200. We're only two people, so when the time comes and the funds aren't available, it may get pushed even father back.
  5. I voted yes. It would certainly benefit many members.

While I personally don't have a purebred dog, I find it very interesting to look at the pedigrees of other member's dogs, and compare the common ancestors.

I know absolutely nothing about pedigrees and I think this would be wonderful. I've been wanting to learn more about them and what better place! I vote yes.
  13. I would love it. Just as long as there are not 15 pedigrees that are the same dog, and the dogs have their registerd names, not names that people have gave them.

Just to let everyone know... this is not something that will happen over night. Once we find the right person to complete the job, providing the funds are available, it would take an additional 30-45+ days to begin seeing it in operation. As the current schedule is looking, it will be sometime in the first part of December before we decide on the right person to take on the task (assuming we are able to afford it at that time). If the current schedule is still on the same course at that time, we should see the system fully functioning by early to late February.

Please continue to vote and voice your opinions, comments or concerns.

    Thank you.

It still sounds good to me. Any idea what the cost will be for us to become members? Also, do you think it will be big enough to compete with the more commonly-used online pedigree services?
