Will my Pit ever turn on me???

My pup is now 7mo old and im wandering if a properly trained and loved dog will just one day turn on their owner?? I've gathered a ton of info since i got my pup and read some stories claiming that Pit's turn on their owners, and some have reported that if in fact the dog did attack it was chained or locked up in a kennel or basement. Or in other cases the dog had a mental problem and it turned because of that fact.I know there is two sides to every story and in those reports they probably don't investigate the owners known faults after the attack. But if the dog is more a family member than pet then is there still a chance one day my dog for no apparent reason will attack me???

Looks like the media did a good job! NO don`t worry changes are slim to none and it would sooner happen with any other breed then a stable wel mannered APBT. Having said that always makes sure your dog sees you as his leader. But win the respect of your dog don`t enforce it. Be gentle but consistent

I am new the forum. First off, I have been perusing the forum and have learned alot regarding the breed but, more importantly having a Pit as a Pet. I, too, must admit that prior to placing my deposit on a Pit Pup I wasthe first one to say that it is not the Pit Bulls but the People, which may be absolutely true in most cases. However, that is easy to say while petting someone's Pitbull in a dog park or on the street - but when I placed my deposit on the pup, I also began finding myself spending more time analyzing the "bite" statics and reports. I am pretty sure, hoping atleast the results to be skewed because of the fact that the media eats Pit Bull bites up more than ones for Beagles, Labs, etc...

Anyway I must admit, I do have my concerns, but every Pit that I have encountered (knock on wood) has been AWESOME! We (wife, and (2) children, (3 and 5 years old) are expecting to add our pup to our family in a few weeks, we have a Male Golden Labroador Retreiver, who is 3.5 years old, the best disposition ever - ANY Thoughts or Advice on how to make this work!?!

They ARE skewed. Many dogs are labeled as pit bulls by people who have no idea what a pit bull is. Think about it. A police officer writes up a report on an attack by a dog. Is the police officer, just by virtue of being a police officer, also an expert on dog breeds? No. And to be honest, the average person (myself included) is no different. We rescued our "pit" off the street, but after doing a lot of reading, I'm more convinced he may be an American Bulldog mix, although some resources do consider ABs to be a pit bull-type of dog. In any event, you should read the reports from the National Canine Research Council.

Pay particular attention to their conclusions from their annual reports on dog bite-related fatalities, which is generally much like this one from 2012:

There is no scientific evidence that one kind of dog is more likely to injure a human being than another kind of dog.

Please reconsider, especially if both of you work away from home, before you bring a new puppy home.

And, if one of you IS home, be sure that person wants the pup as much as the other. In other words, you must BOTH want this dog equally or it won't work. Please don't get this pup because it's "for the kids". That won't work either.

You really have your hands full with the one dog and two young kids and Pit Bulls are not for the casual owner. You can get away with that with the Golden, but not a Pit Bull. Be sure you really think about this because it's almost impossible to find a home for an adult Pit Bull.
