taken from another forum, pretty cool idea... so how did you get your dog(s) ?? MAKE SURE YOU POST PICTURES TOOO....

jesse came from a pet store. it was either we take her home or the lawnmower store owners take her and chain her outside to guard the lawnmowers as their guard dog died... 8 weeks old, and brought her home in may 2001..
6 months later, i went to one of the local shelters and kept going back to see Sonny.. after 3 visits which included bringing jesse , hubby and his kids, sonny came home in October 2001 at 6 1/2 years old.. he was actually Jesse's birthday present to her from me, as she suffered from severe SA when we were not home, and would bark and howl all day..(neighbors told me one night)
rufus, well, he was only a babysitting job initially at 8 weeks old in October 2002, but hubby fell in love with him, and wanted him to stay. so the 2 week babysitting job turned into a permanent home.. i was thinking of another dog, tried an adult, that didnt work with jesse at all, and rufus came to be..he was born in the shelter, and was supposed to be euthanized with the entire litter and mom as the shelter had no room for a mother and 9 pups..rescue stepped in and he and his family were put into a foster home and saved from euthanasia 2 days later...

Dakota is from a breeder - though admittedly not one you would commonly classify as really good quality. I was young at the time and didn't have any choice in where we got our dog from...but given that I have Dakota now, I would never change what happened.

JC came from a pet store, before I knew anything about them. I researched the chihuahua breed for about a year. Got him right after the september 11 terror attack. After I got him, I got into alot of stuff to do with BYBs, animal abuse....which then led me to the BSL stuff and where I am today:)

well here's a few from past and present:

Spanky was my GSD. I was in an ice cream parlor with my girlfriend and a girl came in with a tiny pup and asked if anyone wanted him. I took him home and he was one of my greatest dogs, all 145 lbs of him. This picture is when he was 11 or 12 yrs old (scan of an old picture...digital not invented yet  ) Spanky lived a long happy life to the age of 13.

Zeus was a pit mix I got from a shelter in the early 90's , he was a good dog. I lived in NYC and faced a lot of negativity and fear from people, it was a bad time back then.

Rusty was a APBT/AmStaff cross I got in the mid 90's . I got him from a friend. He was a beautiful dog, such a great temperament.

Buffy we got 11 years ago from North Shore Animal League. She was supposed to be a Chihuahua mix :no2: ended up a GSD/ Rotti mix, but we love her so. She's still kicking it with the pups. She's a great watch dog ( I need one to guard my Bulldogs :D )

Dexter was the product of a BYB. We had him from 12 weeks and had to put him down at a little over a year old due to fear aggression issues. HE gave us a great year, I had so many high hopes for him. He was such a wonderful dog, it broke my heart.

I got Bella off Louis B. Colby's yard. It was quite a pleasure meeting him, seeing the dogs and his kennels, and talking bulldogs for a while, he's such a gentleman. We got Bella at 10 weeks, she's developing into one of my best dogs yet

Queen was a resuce. The guy that had her was straving her so we offer to take her. Ceaser was also a resuce. He was going to be used as a fighting dog but we offered we offered to buy him off the guy and the guy wanted the money more than the dog. We reported him after we bought Ceaser. We got JT from Nate's brother.

    Mike (aka Pimp)

A friend of mine bought him from a breeder. Well he got sick as a pup and my friend could not afford to treat him (1 week in ICU, exploratory surgery, ultrasound) and since I worked in a Vet hospital I was able to save him. I asked for his papers (ADBA, UKC). I show him. And he is doing pretty well. He has been in 3 shows and has 5 ribbons. Just this past weekend he won 2nd in his class. 3rd best Blue in show in a class of about 20 dogs, and 3rd for his Halloween costume lol.

  13. Noelle's Mom

Okay, Fiona came up to our front door step on a chilly night in November of 2005. Charles, my husband, hated APBTs or anything similar and had bought into all the media hype about them so he brought out the hose and sprayed her with it. Then he insisted that we all go into the house. We watched a movie and then we walked outside again. There was Fiona hunkered down shivering. At that point I insisted that we bring her in, even if only for a night. We had a large indoor kennel and because we had another dog that is where she stayed...plus, Charles was still afraid. Obviously, after a night with this amazing animal there was no way we were going to give her up. About two months later her previous owner came by, had pictures to prove it was her dog, but said she really didn't want to deal with her anymore so we got to keep her. (she's the big white one)

Then, last year on December 20th I came home from a LONG stay back in Canada. I was having a really hard time with a lot of things in my life and had just found out that my chances of having a child of my own are next to nothing. Fiona didn't know me anymore, and I wasn't going to be able to work for a long time. I'm still not working. Therefore I knew I had a ton of time on my hands with absolutely nothing to do with it. I saw a sign advertising these puppies and after talking to the guy selling them, and seeing the Male and Female that bred them, I had to have one. They were selling for $150 since they were not papered or anything. I explained a lot of my situation to the guy (except the really personal stuff) and he knocked the price down to $100 to welcome me to the Country, lol. In some ways it may have been better to go to a big fancy breeder, but there's no way that #1 I could have afforded to, and I wouldn't have gotten Noelle who I absolutely adore.

Nice pics and beautifuls dogs everyone!

My first dog as a young adult, Martini was the product of an oops litter between a Philly GSD K9 and a show Welsh Corgi (and the Corgi was the sire, he must have needed a step ladder to get to her ), I took him from my college roomates after they totally neglected him and didn't have the money to treat his epilepsy.

Jaegger, the black sheppy on the bottom, the best damm dog in the world, completed both Sch. I and II in the same week, had a nose like a bloodhound and loved everyone, lost her to bloat when she was 6.

Blade, my sweet Sibe boy, the only survivor of an outbreak of Lepto in NYC, he came to me jaundiced (and a yellowed Siberian is not a pretty thing, yech!) 20 lbs. underweight and stinkin' like a swampass, but he was a fighter and came back to become a stunning, affectionate doofus. Unfortunately he only made it another two years, and I lost him to leukemia in 2005.
Blade the day he was released from the hospital.

    And 9 months later
    [IMG]

Annabanana, my Alaskan Husky foster failure, was abused so badly she was terrified of people (not aggro, just afraid) and after trying to adopt her out three times, she now has a permanent home here at Casa De Doggy .

And Loki and Layla, Golden/Spitz? mixes, we had gone to an adoption event after I had lost 2 dogs prior looking for a Siberian and came home with these two furballs, awesome dogs, love them dearly, Loki's a therapy dog and my all around Crayon Boy (a temperament so stellar you could jam a Crayola up his backside and he'd ask for paper to draw on ), his sister however is a really a cat, indifferent, aloof and will only come near you if she wants an assscratch :hrmph:.

    Then....

Mercedes and Bentley we got from BYBs before we even knew what that was. We brought Mercedes home in December of 2001. She was 8 weeks and Blaize was about 4 months old at the time. So they are the best of friends. Bentley we got in March of 2002. He was also 8 weeks old. Chubby little butt. We werent planning on getting another, but when I saw how the guy kept them outside, in the mud and snow, no shelter, food, or water in site, I took him. Ozzy we got from a friend who could no longer care for him. He was about a year or so old. Got him in July of 2003. He just needed attention. Harley aka Churri, we rescued from an adoption center that comes to Petsmart. Skinny, rotten teeth, wearing a suede bomber jacket with a fleece lining. We fell in love instantly. Parker, Basset Hound, we got from a breeder in Arkansas. He flew in on September 20somthing, 2006. Hubby says "Oh you'll love Bassets, big and lazy." Lazy my ass! He gives my APBTs a run for their money. Sorry no pics had to restore factory setting on the comp. Maybe later. ;)

    This is a great thread

Paco I "inherited" from my Stepfather when he passed away in 2005...His name was Elvis and I took him under the condition that I could change his name..My Mom told me his registered name was Paco so thats what I called him....after she found his papers months later his registered name is actually Vato. Paco was placed in a pet shop at 6 weeks...adopted by a woman with children who decided having a puppy was too much so she gave him to my aunt. My aunts dogs didn't like him so my aunt gave him to my Stepdad who was diagnosed with cancer shortly thereafter. So in Pacos first year he was shifted around alot and as a result was very skittish, but he is alot better now. As a matter of fact he wants me to hold him ALL the time now....he's my baby.

Big Girl I saw being dumped in the road and picked her up...I had no idea what I was going to do with her and my ex was totally against keeping her in the beginning...as a matter of fact he was so on my ass about it that at one point I loaded her back into the truck and was going to take her to the shelter...and she put her nose on my shoulder and sighed...she was tired and had a long confusing day and I knew she didn't stand a chance there..so I u-turned and took her back in the house and told him I was keeping her until I could find her a good home. Well I did...mine...and I made one of the best decisions ever that day. The ex is gone but I still have my Girl!!

    Here are my Babies...
