My parents never let us have dogs when I was a kid. I didn't get my first dog until I was 26.That's Molly, rescued black lab. She's 6 and we still have her. I have also had Murphy who was an American Bulldog. We pulled him from the shelter with help from American Bulldog Rescue, he was a failed foster :) he passed almost exactly a year ago from cancer. He was only 6. Lemmy is an APBT from Redcoat Kennels, he is 9 mos.

DH grew up with dogs. First they had Josh, he was a little white mutt that FIL got in college. He LOVED FIL until he got out and was hit by a car. He lived but was epileptic after the accident. They had to medicate him with phenobarbitol every day. After that he hated FILand used to hide under the bed and bite his ankles. By the time DH came along, Josh was old and failing. He became aggressive toward DH as an infant, he was pts. Then they had Shadow, a black lab. Shadow died at 8. She was never spayed and got pyometra. During the spay, the hack vet left some gauze inside her. She got peritonitis and died. Then they got Tilly a black lab from a BYB. She had some major HA issues and was pts after the bit SIL for the second time and cornered MIL on the stairs. After that was Jake, he was a humongous chocolate lab and he was DHs boy. He used to sleep in DHS bed. He lived to 14, his arthritis finally got so bad he couldn't walk. That was about 5 years ago. They now have a BYB yellow lab named Bo who is fat, has terrible allergies and is DA with males. He has a totally sweet disposition with people though.

I feel so out of place! Garp my pound-pit is my first ever dog. Grew up with 1 cat. Would always drag him around on a string trying to make him act like a dog. Used to borrow the neighbor's chocolate lab as a kid.

Not as many as some of you! While Ive not yet owned a dog of my very own, I grew up with a few.

Patches: our black-and-white cow-patch something or another mutt (I knew him until 3rd grade, when he passed away, so I dont really know if that counts...)

Star: Our pitbull/lab mix. This is my main dog for my childhood. She was with us for 10 of her 12 years. My dad adopted her when she was only two days away form euthanasia, because "nobody wanted a pitbull". HA!! We loved this dog!! She passed away suddenly my senior year of high-school and our family was so heartbroken when she did. She is the main reason Im so interested in this breed.

my dad fostered a greyhound/lab mix for a while. He was a gorgeous dog! The long body and legs of a greyhound, but the coat, head and tail of a black lab...this had to have been the prettiest mixed-breed dog Ive ever set eyes on. Luckily, Milo's fear of people went away and he found himself a forever-home with a nice lady and her fat collie. Those two dogs are BFFs!

    Growing up...
    Black Lab.
    Two brothers MalteseXBeagle

Since being married I've taken in a lot of rescue situations that required taking dogs off kijiji that I knew were in trouble.
All of the people I've homed these dogs with are on my facebook and we're all friends, and it makes me happy to see them doing so well! I hope someday I have the time and room to foster and pull dogs again!

Pomeranian mix, Yorkie mix, Pomeranian, PitXAm Bulldog, were all my pulled dogs.
Then I found Maci and Leon who have been the perfect dogs for me to keep, so I haven't been able to pull any recently... but idk what i'd do without them so i'm happy to be content with the two of them for now:D

  10. Thought this would be a fun thread to revive :)

Aside from APBT's, I now also have:

1 English Bull Terrier, 2 Patterdale Terriers, 1 American Bulldog, and a Staghound :) As soon as the transport is arranged, I will also have 1 Jagd Terrier!

I've never owned an APBT, I've owned dogs who had the APBT look but were pound dogs so I can't say for sure what they were.

I grew up with and owned GSDs, Mo, Dutch, and Gretchen - Gretchen was rehomed a long time ago. Mo and Dutch were both put down years ago, health and age.
Collie/Husky named Lizzy - I grew up with her. She used to bite us, that all I remember. I don't know what happened to her.
Miniature Schnauzer named Ziggy - he was my grandparents dog. He just did NOT work out for us, I lived at home at the time, and we rehomed him to an older couple who had no other dogs.
Pomeranian mix that I still have, miss Sparkles.
    Of course Jaeger the GSD.
There was also a dog who was just nuts that we had when I was growing up named Queenie. I THINK she was supposed to be a rottie mix, I can't remember. My sister moved out and took her, and promptly lost her.
I've raised my neighbors' English Labrador, who is an awesome dog.

The only non-bull breed dogs I've fostered was a Siberian Husky and a Hound pup of some kind.

In my life my parents had:
a mix breed I'm not sure about, her name was Lucky and she wa awesome. Mom got rid of her.
aussie mix named Sasha who was also also, Mom got rid of her.
Aussie mix named Rosco and he was soooo cool and the best dog ever, Mom got rid of him.
A pug named Cobra who was easily the dumbest animal I have ever met, Mom got rid of him after just six months. Noticing a pattern yet?
Since I have had my own family we have had a
jack rat terrier named Terror who is my love, he is about to be 7 this year.
a beagle/basset that is my sweetheart but super grumpy to everyone else named Baby Girl who will be 6 later this year.
some type of pit whom I believe was an am staff but will never know for sure named Brody. He was only two and had been rehomed twice due to someone getting a dog he couldn't have and ten pawning him off on everyone else. We had him from around 6 months old till he was 2.5. He had serious dog aggression towards dogs other than my own. Wouldn't have been an issue but he also could not be contained. He broke my living room window, four cages, and about five spots in my back yard fence. He literally would just bulldoze through everything using his ginormous head. He was such a sweet dog to people, and loved my kids like crazy. I ended up deciding to have him out down because I was constantly having to leve my kids locked up in the house to go retrieve him from the back area of our houses(our yards meet up with the neighbors back yard on the next street over). My husband was constantly gone on deployments so I just didnt feel like I could give him the attention/control he needed. I tried in three states surrounding us to find a rescue or someone who could take him with no luck and then the SPCA offered to euth. It still makes me feel like I murdered him :(
We just got a new am staff mix named Apollo who will be 12 weeks old on Wednesday because they are my husband's heart dog and he deserves it, it's been almost two years since Brody. I love Apollo but he makes me miss Brody a lot. I've cried so much lately about Brody, which sucks cuz I had finally gotten to a place where I wasn't feeling quite so horrible about it. Anyways, that's it for my sob story.

    Some pics of Brody:

I feel so dog-poor, lol. Aside from Roxie, I've only ever had Buddy- Beagle/Hound mix, and when I was 5 years old my parents got an Akita/Lab mix they named Charcoal.

However, my grandparents had their dog Kady, a red Heeler that was very bonded to me (after attacking me and dragging me down the driveway when I was 7...) And then my cousin's JRT Jack, aka Patch, was sort of my dog as well. Jack was an excellent dog, I miss him a lot.

I suppose I can count my previous neighbor's Doxies (a mini and a standard) too, since they were always over at my house. Max was the mini and Sammy was the standard.

I definately didn't grow up with bully breeds. My family had always been against them, but I have always been drawn to large breeds and when Buddy passed I finally got my wish.

Grew up with a Smooth Coat Collie pictured above. One of the best dogs I've owned as far as a pet goes. Also had a couple Shelties, a Black Lab and a Husky all as a kid growing up. Haven't owned any other breeds since I got into Bulldogs back in "96".
