What does your breeding program consist of?

So many people blindly go into the breeding of the Bullies thinking they are going to get rich quick. I feel a good breeding program with goals and well thought out breeding is a must.

Here is some of ours ....

We promote the protection of the American Bullies as a breed. Our lines consist of Razor's Edge, Gotti, Mikeland and Gangus Khan

Our philosophy is to breed the best to the best and to concentrate on quality not quantity. Our dogs will make great additions to families and to other kennels looking for quality stock.

We take pride in our program and will not compromise the integrity of the American Bully by taking short cuts. Each of our breeding's have been thought out, researched and planned to produce the best.

When Breeding we look at health, conformation and temperament as our main focus. Our goal is to produce healthy, correct and sound American Bullies.

We have contracts and also education packs to help educate possible new American Bully owners ....

Some of our rules of thumb are.....

NEVER breed on the first heat.
NEVER breed a male under 15 months old.
We always skip a heat between breeding's.
We keep very good records from beginning to end on each breeding and every pup whelped.
We do have a culling program that consist of having any pup that does not meet our standards fixed and placed in pet homes.
We always have both Dam and Sire checked by our Vet before a breeding. We are later going to add Health testing to our program, still doing research on that and what I feel will be needed and beneficial and what is just a waste of time and money.

My program if I continued to have one, would consist of much the same. I have never bred an unproven dog. Thats just me. What determines best of the best if they are not proven in some way? I have always proven my dogs in the conformation ring of whichever registry they are in. Been doing it for a long long time. It is conformation not confirmation (pet peeve of mine). I have no plans of ever breeding Bonnie. Chief will remain available at stud to approved classic bitches till I say different. He's only been bred twice btw with my own Bubbles. I too believe in vet checks prior and during pregnancy, neg results on brucellosis test no later than 7 days prior to any natural ties, keep records and stand behind my dogs 100%. Never a dissatisfied customer. I agree with what you say about health testing but may run Chief through some of the structural tests (hips & elbows).

Celtic sumed it up for the most part. I would like to add we don't over stud our males and over breed our females. We like to give our females atleast a 1 to 2 heat cycle break. Especially if we don't have any room, or approved buyers, or placement room for the extra pups. Also I am really picky about who I do sell my dogs to. Because I brought them here they didnt ask to come it's my responsibilty to see to it that they are well taken care of. Sometimes I feel like I worry the hell out of people calling and checking on pups off my yard. Also I have a open door/call policy with anyone. Reason being it shows how well my dogs are kept up and there living conditions. And, for my new bully owners I always tell them call me with any question or concern I will support you to the best of my ability in finding the right anwser to your problem. And, last but not least I stand behind any of my dogs from 1sec old to the day they take there last breath. Any, problem resulting from my breeding program I will stand behind no matter what.

It's nice to see ethical breeder's,something that is lacking in alot of people's program today.
