We go with Taste of the Wild, awesome stuff. Gives my dogs (way too much) energy, shiny coats, less shedding, and better bowel movements. Highly recommended for the price ($44/bag)! Wish we could sell it on our site!

Hi all, my pit/American bulldog mix has always been on Merrick Grain Free. Recently transitioned her from their puppy to adult formula. Adult "flavor" we chose was beef. She has been extremely gassy and soft stools ever since the switch. In comparing proteins from the puppy to adult, it appears the puppy formula is mainly chicken as the protein, so I'm switching her from the Merrick beef to Merrick chicken. Do I need to do this gradually like when switching brands of food, or is it ok to go right to the new flavor?

You may need to transition gradually, it really depends on your specific dog.

Although, personally, I would switch off Merrick entirely because they were recently purchased by Purina.

I don't care what anyone says about Blue, it's a good food.. Been feeding it for a long time now to many different animals and they all thrived on it.. I am thinking about switching though when Broly switches to adult food. Might go Orijen but man, i can see that feed bill now, every month lol..

Ive heard good things about Taste of wild, Acrana and even Diamond.

    Always grain free though..

When your feeding 10+ cost is a major concern

You like that Diamond cage? That is what i really wanted to try.

Yeah it's pretty good, I don't technically consider it grain free because it has brown rice in it but it's definitely better than the crap that is mostly corn meal.

It's about the cheapest food I feel good about feeding my dogs and they all do great on it

Don't worry... I feed it too. Well, my mom does to her dog. I would have switched him to something else but he does very well on it. Super soft and shiny coat. 1 poop per day. It's hard to top that.

Still though, especially for the cost, there are better options out there so I always suggest to other people to use other brands instead. I've heard a lot of people complain about gas on BB.

My brother feeds Blue to his dog, too and he does amazing on it. He doesn't itch and his coat is also glossy. I haven't noticed any gas from the food when they visit, he's not really a gassy dog any way lol.

  15. I've studied animal nutrition for years, Im pro holistic foods, I'd feed raw if I could afford it but holistic does the trick. I shop at Tractor supply, we swap between Taste of the Wild and 4Health. One of my favorite sites is dogfoodadvisor.com for checking quality. They tell you why they rated it high or low and it's all unbiased.

The fact that Blue just settled a 30-something million dollar class action consumer lawsuit and is still facing another lawsuit by Purina says a lot about the company. Using byproducts for years while charging consumers premium food prices, not a company I'd go near. I'm slowly switching my customers off of it so that I can drop the line from my store.

Think about it this way... If Purina thinks their food is crap, that's saying something. Lol.

I used to feed blue until I discovered my Blue had an allergy to chicken so I decided to switch. I feed Fromm now. What a difference in my blues coat and allergies. I agree with feed what the dog likes and does good on.

Purina can say and think what they want lol. I am actually eligible for the settlement, i have receipts i could turn in and get a settlement but my dog did great on it so i am not going to try and get money from something that had no negative effect on me or my dogs.

Same here Steve, i switched to Salmon from Chicken and shes been on that for about the last 5 or 6 months doing really well.
