1945 facial structure deteriorating...

Even the highly regarded working Boxers of today have ruined faces which provide no benefit to the dog and in fact hinder its ability to breathe in hold...

The first picture resembles the now American Bulldog. Now the boxers are smush faced and thin..not stocky.

i actually got the pic from a video around 1920 and the boxers looked massive. Specially the darker one resembled a Cane Corso, just massive bones and muscles. Super alert and not thin boned and lanky like the current ones.

There is also a Boston Terrier in the video it looks exactly like an APBT.

They used to be a nice made dog. It's like a lot of breeds, getting ruined by people breeding for the wrong reasons. You think this is bad you should see how much better the Shar Pei used to be before it turned into a wrinkle bag.

I was going to say the same thing, they look more like a mastiff breed back then.
What would they fall under now? A bully breed because of it's fighting background?

This dog is amazing looking, I wish someone with time and money would try to breed back to this standard.
How did we let them get so messed up...stupid conformation breeders :nono:

The original boxer was bred off the German bulldog.
I know this thread is about Boxers but I'm glad you posted those pics,I've seen them before and it's pretty sad what the Shar Pei has become for the most part. The pic at top if I'm not mistaken is of Iron Monkey. This is what happens when people take a functional, performance bred dog and decide to breed it to fit whatever style look pet owners want.Boston terriers are the same way.In just a few generations a breed can be truly ruined.
