Vinnie needs help

In all my years on the lists there has been only one other time I have sent out a request for help. As we all know bullies in shelters are nothing new. Sometimes the true cruelty of humans only helps to remind us of the compassion that humans have as well. It also reminds us the true forgiving spirit of the bullies and the heart they have.

A few weeks ago I was contacted by an ACO at a shelter here in WI. In the 7 or so years I have known her, she has worked at this shelter in some capacity and NEVER once has she asked for help. When she contact me about Vinnie, I just knew something was special with this dog. Exhausted, I referred her to our foster home closer to her and half read the email.

Looking back, I am shocked that I missed all that was wrong with him, and I am pleased to say through one woman's compassion. Vinnie moved into his new foster home with CBBR. A special needs home if you will, because as you will learn Vinnie has some special needs. He had a few "surgical" procedures over the years and they were done with out the aid of a vet or any of those niceties. Vinnie is missing parts. And not the ones rescues take, but a forelimb, a tail crop, ear dock and a rear toe. Vinnie is heavily scarred. His teeth are ground down to nothing. Vinnie also has both Lyme and Anaplasma. Both are fairly mild, however there are some concerns that due to pain response Vinnie may need a vet to properly amputate his front leg and make it clean. This will be known better in time if the pain issues are related to the Lyme or the poor amputation. He also has many hot spots, which are currently being treated as well.

Through this all Vinnie has been amazing. He knows many commands including shake, speak, down, sit among others. He is even keeled and loving. He has a truly unbreakable spirit. He has also wormed his way into the foster homes heart in a mere 4 days.

While I hesitate to ask for help often, I do when there is a special need. Vinnie is a special need. Unsure of what lies ahead for him, we will help him however we can. Every little bit will help. I know times are tight and if you cant donate, we truly understand, but perhaps taking the time to cross post this email would help. Donations are tax deductible and should we exceed the cost of his care, we will rotate the remaining donations into our general fund.

UPDATE - 9/10/8 - Vinnie has also been diagnosed with a torn tendon in his rear leg where the toe is missing. He will need a little extra TLC, but we hope to see it heal on its own. He has also learned to "roll over".

If you can help financially, even $5.00 will help over the long run.

    Donations can be mailed to

    Update - Vinnie

It looks like vinnie will be getting a new leg. It will help prevent continued tendon damage on his rear foot. We have to get through the first leg off his treatments and then we will move forward with the prosthetic leg! So Vinnie will be again a 4 legger.
