Veterinary Review

Discussion in 'Feedback & Suggestions' started by notoriouslyKEN, Feb 17, 2010.

  1. I think it would be nice to add a section that user's could provide feedback on vet's they have visited in their areas. Whether they are apbt friendly, expensive, honest, etc. I think it could be a great resource for new and old pit owners if we can get members to contribute.

I like the idea, I'd personally like to have it include whether it's a private practice or one owned by one of the "evil" corporations as well :D

Good Idea, I'll participate w/ my direct eperiences if that's set up.
I've used 2 Vets so far for my my 15 week old, and so far I'm disatisfied for a variety of reasons. I've solicited referrals from other dog owners ( it's been a 'popularity' thing, no real info to base decisions on), and looked on the internet for similar resources (haven't found any) and to ferret out complaints about (found many) Vets in my area.

  9. In my mind, the moderators would set up a new forum (or subforum under Health & Nutritional Care) titled Veterinary Review. Inside of that forum, subforums by State. When Posting a new thread, you would put the name of the hospital and the city in the correct State. Then fill out your review and provide the address, phone number and website (if any).

We could most likely set up a database. Currently we are working on another project, and as soon as we can ease up on some time, we'll squeak this in!

well, since nobody else has said this yet, I'll take the honor... Shon, hurry up and get to work! ;)

    :D

  14. One of the data fields in the database should be cost of a standard exam. It could help give a general idea on the overall price of the vet.

It's a good idea.. the problem is that different people will recommend different things. I hate to break it to you guys, but a cheap exam doesn't always mean that it is a good vet... or that you just had your dog looked at by somebody worthwhile going to.
I work for a referral hospital and in that capacity, we get oodles of medical records from pretty much all nearby hospitals. There are some, that I wouldn't even take my ant-farm to.. but their exam cost might be super low. There are some others, that do take more money for the exam and the quality of care is no better, but in general.. price-shopping is not a helpful way to figure out who is able to take the best care of your pet.

Quality of care and bang for the buck, especially if you don't have any bucks, is very anecdotal.. especially when done by the (mostly) clueless owner (when it comes to medicine). Even ant-farm vet has some lucky cases that actually survived the ordeal the vet put them through. There is a saying in vet med: the vast majority of cases get better, no matter what you do, a few will result in a dead patient, no matter what you do, and with the some, you can make the difference between life and death.

Just my 2 cents on the matter.

  16. First and foremost, the goal is to provide someone's opinion of the vet. I agree that the price of a general exam has no correlation with the quality of service you will receive at the vet. However, the price of the exam combined with our forum members inputs gives the pet owner a quality of care (the review/opinion) with the added bonus of being able to get an idea of how much the visit will cost them. From what I have seen, the price of an exam is an extremely variable cost and to many people it may mean the difference between two local vets.

I think it is a great idea. Obviously, way over priced wouldn't be good but I don't think that price is first and for most in people that really care about the vet. I could care less the price if I really trusted the vet. However, they don't usually go hand in hand and in these times people do have to worry about it. I have been to a way over priced vet that wasn't very good and a vet that wasn't good and was a decent price. It is all relative. Or can be....

I agree, some vets do a mediocre job with high! prices. Other I know of, do a damn good job, and are really cheap. Still need a spot for us to chat about the vets, likes and dislikes. And costs for people who have the money or those of us who are not so fortunate to use TOP of the line and find good vets cheap!

I know this is a little dated, but It would be great as in my current situation where I will be moving to a new state I've never been too and it would be wonderful to already have something to go by instead of me testing out vets..

This is a great idea! I would like to see how it turns out as I have had trouble finding a better vet.
