Wow, how did I get into this one??? I am fostering Spiderman, here is his story below.

Melinda C****** is/was the owner of two male 6 month old pit bull puppies that she rescued from an apartment building where they were left when they were younger. Up until today they had not received any veterinary care. They are inside pets, except when nobody is home, because they are “destructive”. When no one is home, they are kept outside on chains. Today (June 18, 2009) while they were chained, the puppy named “Spiderman” broke his chain, was loose in the neighborhood and was picked up by Orange County Animal Services. Ms. C****** then went to Animal Services, where “Spiderman” received his rabies vaccine and paid the $60 fine to take him back. “Spiderman” was then placed in the front of the truck with Mr. and Mrs. C****** . While on their way home, “Spiderman” jumped out of the open truck window where witnesses saw that he had been hurt. Mr. C****** was “unconcerned” and said the pup was “fine” but witnesses convinced the couple to take “Spiderman” to the vet, where it was determined that one of his back legs was broken. Because of Mr. and Mrs. C****** ’s financial situation they had an option to surrender the dog to another party or have him euthanized. At this time I was contacted by the veterinary clinic and was told I only had until 6 pm to find placement for the dog. I then decided to take him into independent foster care where I would seek funding from PBRC.net and other fundraising sources for his care. I am able to get his x-rays done free-of-charge at the low-cost clinic that I work at, but the Dr. is not available until Monday morning when I go into work. MOnday he will get his x-rays, and I have scheduled an appointment for him at 2:15 pm on Tuesday, June 23rd at a full cost veterinary facility to discuss his options and get a price quote for his care. Mrs. C****** did fill out a surrender form for me to take responsibility of the dog and now he is on bed rest for over the weekend.

If you can contribute ANYTHING, even a DOLLAR for his upcoming EXPENSIVE vet visit on Tuesday & surgery thereafter, please send donation via Paypal

I am fostering independently and am receiving no rescue help, as I understand the rescues in my area are overfull and underfunded as it is!!

Have you had this dogs rear leg radiographed yet? Can you splint the leg?

Simms, Right now he is on pain meds with a light sedative, and being crated, except when we carry him outside for potty. I wish we didn't have to wait, but we are doing everything we can to keep him comfortable - and the costs as low as possible.

Wow... what a horrible story. That lady doesn't deserve to own a gold fish!! He's a beautiful boy, I will try to donate some money come payday.

No, we signed an agreement with the vet that the vet has to be present to perform any x-rays. We are a low-cost spay/neuter clinic and he is only available to us Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays until about 1 pm. It sucks we know but when you are working at a place like this you have to take what you can get. And free xrays sound good to me, even if we do have to keep the lil guy rested for a few days.

Thanks, MN! It was mainly the husband who was a jerk, the lady was in tears and you could tell she was just doing the best she could, but was a bit ignorant about the amount of responsibility it takes to own a pit bull. I am in contact with her b/c she is interested in his progress & I am also trying to get her into our clinic to get her other pit bull neutered b/c it's only $50 and I can get PBRC to fund it.
