I'm thoroughly impressed by Miss V. And quite honestly, you've handled an even bigger challenge. You've taken a relatively low drive, opinionated dog who is not dying to please you, and trained her, positively, to do a series of tasks that are not innately rewarding (unless she has a top secret load the dishwasher drive). You should be very, very proud, both of Miss V and yourself.

What a perfectly worded post Leslie! I giggled like crazy over the phrase, opinionated dog. I can hear you now Jazzy.....low drive (lazy).....opinionated (back talking bitch).....not dying to please you (get it yourself, and bring me another cookie whilst you're up), and you've still managed to train her. In spite of her wanting to do otherwise, I say bravo!

    Thanks guys.

@ Leslie & Lillie May - LMAO. What a perfect description of Veronica - the politically correct version and ...well...the call a spade a spade version

It's good to know I'm not crazy though, I think she is a challenging dog to train and sometimes I wonder what I'm missing or doing wrong - or what someone with more experience and expertise would be able to do with her - because she's SO damn smart and it seems like I only get her to tap into a quarter of her potential.

She's like the gifted kid -- who could be a brain surgeon - but just wants to lie on the bed playing Grand Theft Auto and popping cheetos all day.

Thanks guys - Ms. V. really does enjoy being a Diva

I really am proud of the dishwasher trick. That's the only one - other than the time out in her crate - that I did completely on my own. All the others I found a video where someone else did it and just followed the steps - the dishwasher trick I think is pretty original and I figured it out all on my own - breaking the behaviors down and chaining them together so it was really fun and rewarding when it all came together!!!

This was our "process" if you're interested
