Today's hike

Took the boys hiking today on some real rocks. Rhys has been hiking easy trails since he was itty bitty, but today was only his second time on rocks. Thankfully, he didn't kill me. There were a lot of people and dogs out, so very little opportunity to teach him much rock etiquette. Henry, who is an experienced hiker, I often let off lead to let him go ahead or wait on more difficult sections. Once he gets through the section, I have him wait and then I leash him again. He's always under voice control. Don't know when if I'll ever get to that point with Rhys lol.

Pouting because stays are sooo boring.

Easy section, so both boys on leash.

Oh yeah. Henry is still a little taller, but Rhys outweighs him by at least 14-15 pounds.

Thanks! Beagles leave their mark very strongly on their mixes. I think he's at least half beagle. Very common in the hunting mixes around here.

Thank you! I'm very happy with him.

Thanks! Rhys has been asking about his harness, though! ;)

Thank you! I'm also very happy with his crop. Finding a great vet helps.

He's eight months today, actually! About a week or so ago we measured and weighed him. He was 18 inches tall and 47.5 pounds. He's still clearly gaining but I don't see him getting over 52-53 pounds. He's very compact but I'm not completely ruling out a growth spurt considering how heavy boned and bully-ish (to me) that he is.

Barrett will be 5 months in a few days (and already weighs as much as Sako did at 6 months LOL), goes by quick! I would guess that he should definitely fill out more over the next year. You won't know what you really have til he's 2-3yrs. if he's anything like the other dogs in his lines. He does have a lot of bone, very apparent in all of the pics I see of him. Nothing like Sako! Will be interesting to see how he turns out, for sure.

Yeah, as much as I love my puppy and try to remind myself to enjoy every moment, I still battle with wanting him to mature!

I like the cute little 9wk. old stage, then after that I pretty much want them to be 2. My friends and I all say that showing conformation ruins you in that sense because you see every little flaw and are just like "God you're ugly right now" Whereas when I had Wilson, before I ever considered showing, it was "cute" when he was all awkward and weird looking LOL.
