I'm right in the middle of the wonderful frozen prairies (Saskatchewan). Not much for tree cover to slow the wind down either.

This and off leash, uncontrolled dogs (I have absolutely no problem with off leash dogs under good voice control) are my two biggest, dog-related pet peeves! Just ask! I am fairly new to my well established (i.e. mainly long time residents), suburban neighborhood and in addition to people never asking if it okay if their dog can approach my dogs, I regularly encounter dogs roaming the streets off leash. The later is never a good situation: even if the off-leash dog is well-behaved and polite it seems to make the on-leash dog nervous - not good IMHO. I've had words with one neighbor (whose dog regularly roams the neighborhood with no supervision) after it came to my house and was pounding on my front door. Then on the way to tell the owner I watched it crap in my other neighbor's front yard. In another unrelated situation I told a different neighbor that I was going to call animal control if I ever saw her dog off leash again after her dog jumped two of my dogs on separate occasions. And, as you experienced Nat Ursula, the owners always say "well my dogs friendly" and give me dirty looks if my dog barks to warn the other dog about their rude behavior. I guess that's what happens when you live in a semi-hippie-peace-and-love town where everyone thinks that all dogs (and people) are the best of friends. Wow, it felt really good to get that off my chest.

I know, it keeps happening. "My dog is really friendly." Then it barks in Tonka's face and tries to jump on her shoulders? MORONS, that's what I keep thinking.

My husband keeps worrying that Tonka will look directly into the star shower laser lights. He is obsessed to the point where he brought the remote with us on our walk and turned them off while we were waiting to get into the garage. I'm also more worried about javelina and coyotes than Tonka hurting her eyes from these lights.

Back to what is close to a normal life after an unexpected stint in the hospital and subsequent brief stint in a physical rehab facility. On December 8, I had a bad MS related fall, injuring both knees. Contusions, overextended tendons, ligaments.

MS is BS - but happy to be back.

Thank you! Doing better, knees not totally reliable yet, but less unpredictable. Spent Christmas as planned at a small ski resort. The hotel is at the bottom of the slopes, thus a lovely view for someone like me who stood on skis once in her younger years and who refuses to ever try it again. Trusty was with us and enjoyed doggy bags with left-overs from the locally hunted deer prepared beautifully by the hotel's chef and the room's floor heating. Weather conditions were magical Christmas Eve and then switched to windy and nasty, so hubby skipped skiing but we were just thrilled that my accident did not pre-empt our getaway.

You should have seen us at the vet's office last week. We took Diesel in to get his ProHeart6 injection. Now, when I go to the vet's office, I try and be proactive and rather than sit in the waiting room with my dog, I take him outside and keep him occupied. Mind you, Diesel has shown no signs of DA, but a lot of other dogs do...no matter the breed. So, anyhoo...some ladies bring in their APBT's for some stuff, both dogs literally dragging them into the place. Next thing you know, I hear a loud commotion and one of the ladies dogs has propped up his leg and urinated on the shelf of dog food inside. I walk in and the lady is literally hitting the dog with the end of the leash and the entire place goes silent. They ask her to take the dog outside she gets belligerent and said it wasn't her fault, the dog is an outside dog. She then goes on a rant outside where I am at and was going off again on him being an outside dog and she didn't think to walk him before they got there. Then, the woman she came in with, who was also being dragged by the dog she came in with, boast about how she operates an APBT rescue.

Aww that sounds like a really great time for everyone! :) I'm glad you guys were able to get away and spend Christmas together there. Hehehe. Christmas here in northern NJ was 50 degrees!! Yesterday was 59! Global warming to the max. Lol, so terrible! I really think it's El Nino pushing the warm front though but whatever. Glad your okay! Still sending you many healing vibes.

That's crazy! I am the same way - always take mine outside while we wait. Sounds like it was an especially good choice in this situation.

After the fall in December, the noose of immobility has tightened ... not happy. Can only hope that it is temporary and that stability in the knees will improve more.

To all you 'normals' (MS community lingo for those who are not effected by the MonSter) - enjoy every step you can take!

So sorry to hear that. Do they have you in physical therapy? In a pool, maybe? Don't lose hope. I could barely walk when I was in my mid 20s. Now I walk the dog a few miles. I remember selling my bike and thinking I would never be able to ride it again. Try to take really good care of yourself. Get lots of rest and eat really nutritious food. Take it day by day.

Thanks! Not yet, doing my own thing. An app for a formal physio rehab (at a rehab clinic) is pending.

    Thanks, everyone!
@steve07 - Boy, am I 'doing me' at the moment ... we really should have filmed my efforts to make it up a staircase or two during our X-Mas and New Year's vaca. It was comical. Sort of. This country specializes in ... staircases. They are everywhere, lying in wait to trip up or challenge the hapless MSer.

Seriously, I am a tough cookie, but do have my moments of worry and concern - so thanks all for reading my whining post and for your positive thoughts!
