I started one of these over on Game Dog so i figured i would start one here, i seen a few people like to fish so lets share our catches and pictures!

I will start off with one of the most proudest dad moments ever! My daughter graduated elementary yesterday so i was already experiencing one of the biggest joys in my life and so i decided it was time to take her fishing for big catfish, figured it was time to get her started. I set her up in the backyard to practice and I tied a piece of cowhide to the end of the leader line and let her fight the dogs tugging haha! She got it down pretty quick so i took her to the lake too see what she can do. She out fished me :| First time ever catfishing and she caught a 20lb flathead, 15lb flathead and a 12lb bluecat, caught all three in about 20 minutes lol. Did it all herself!!

She is so hooked and addicted now, we just got out of the creek from getting more bait and we are headed back out to the lake too see if we can't get a bigger one but boy am i a proud dad!

    image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg Yes! Great thread. ;)

We only have trout around here, unfortunately. I grew up on the ocean, salmon and cod fishing, so it's a bit of a change being only around lakes and rivers now. There are some really nice rainbows around here though. Here's a nice one we caught a couple weeks ago (which a loon ended up stealing! I got it on video).

Did you eat all of the fish?

Not sure who you're asking, but we either catch and release or eat it. No wasting.

Sorry, I guess I was asking you both. I can imagine they must be really good if eaten on the same day as they are caught.

Release them here also unless we are fishing for a fish fry :)

Oh yeah. We also have a smoker but it's currently broken, so once we fix it we'll start smoking them again too.

Today was actually day 1 of my spring fishing vacation. Didn't pan out so well, was hoping to stop at a popular trout lake on the way to my brother's place but it rained all friggen day. Didn't feel like getting soaked and still having to drive 4.5 hours. The rain came in handy, turns out his yard is full of night crawlers.

Hopefully I'll have some good pictures to share soon. Going to try for channel cats on the Red River, sturgeon and white Bass on the Winnipeg River and wouldn't mind catching mooneye or gold eye too.......all 5 are species I've never caught. Already scratched brown and tiger trout as well as splake off my list already this year. Learning how to troll flies for trout has been awesome, they are a lot of fun to catch. Bought some fly rods, hopefully I'll figure out how to cast them without too much frustration.

    Nothing special but nice color

Considered a master angler, but trout don't get very big here.

Got our channel catfish out of the way. Not a bad day for our first day targetting them. I caught 11, my brother caught 7 I believe and 3 freshwater drum. I would have liked to catch a drum just because it is another that I've never caught, but every single one swallowed the hook so maybe the less we caught the better. My two biggest were 33.75 and 34", but my brother outdid me there with a 35" and a fat 33" both ourweighing mine I'm pretty sure.

Those are some great Channels! They don't really get that big around here. I have caught plenty of Drum before, they usually smoke the hook lol. Try using long shank hooks.

It was certainly a blast, nothing like fishing I've done before. Only starting with 20' of line out behind the boat and it turns into a 5 minute fight. I look forward to it in the future but I need to get a source of cut bait because we used $35 worth of whole shrimp as bait yesterday.

This weather is complete and utter crap. Yesterday was the first nice full day we've had since early last week. Today is a total downpour.....and I left the boat uncovered. I guess on the bright side is I should be able to collect another 200+ night crawlers tonight. Researching sturgeon some more instead. Couple good places around here but I need to be sure of hazards along the way, did close to $7k damage to my boat last year hitting an underwater island and I have no desire to repeat.

$7K? Ouch! If you know how to throw a cast net, just use whatever Herring is in the river system, usually Threadfin Shad, Gizzard Shad, Skipjack, Moon Eye ect. I've always wanted to fish for Sturgeon. They are protected in certain areas as their eggs (Caviar) are highly valuable.

Got my sturgeon, only managed one each but better than getting skunked. Nowhere near as fun as cats were, but this was also a very small fish.

Tried out a new lake this past weekend in the Porcupine Mountains of Manitoba. No electricity up there so it was a pretty quiet place. Fishing was a little slow until I figured the lake out a bit. Finally got a big walleye, almost 3" longer than my previous personal best. 29.25".

Did a solo trip a couple weeks ago and hit 6 different lakes in 4 days. Caught a personal best brown trout, just shy of 24". Also finally caught my first on the fly rod, a very nice 22" rainbow.

Been doing a lot of fly fishing lately. Parked the big boat when it looked like fall was done and over with in mid-October. Things turned around and November has been beautiful, so I've been out in the jon boat a bit doing day trips. Still learning the fly rod, but it is coming along. Did my last trip for the year this week, caught this really nice tiger trout. Biggest on the fly rod to date.
