So I was not a very active person before we got Lemmy AT ALL. I have always been on the slim side, but I will honestly say that I was one of the "skinny fat" out there......slim but totally out of shape. Well having a dog like Lemmy has FORCED me to become more active. He is a nightmare in the house if he does not get exercise. I have been walking about a mile each day with him, and then he plays fetch for about 30 mins. Well over the course of the summer walking a mile a day, I have lost about 10 lbs. I put some of that down to being more concious about my diet too, though. I have had high blood pressure since I was 22 and I am finding that's a little easier to manage too. So yeah, wanna get in better shape? Get a pit bull.

so so true! my boys are crazy right now since I have had my baby, I just started getting back into walking every day for an hour or two which is about a mile and a half to 3 miles if I am not waiting to cross streets or get stopped..but then my hubby breaks my toe (welll his stupid shoe he left in the MIDDLE of the floor did, steel toes against my frail toe...yea the shoe won) anyhow after it healed I was back to walking...then I went 2 outa 3 weekends outa town, when I go outa town I am gone from Thursday to sunday sometimes monday (hubby left on sat. morning came home sunday night so the dogs didn't even have a fast day) anyhow...so yea I get back home and am ready to walk and what happens...WEST NILE VIRUS in my town and with the baby I am not ganna risk it, so now I ahve to wait till the stupid bugs die...so yea bully breeds are great when you can exercise but hell when ya can't (I spend my day yelling at the pup to shut up lol poor boy just wants a walk and voices it) sorry for the rant :D

Geeze Ellie I must be stupid ... We've had about 60 Something cases of WNV and I still go out with the dogs while I can >>' And they have actually have had people get the Neurological form of the virus in my area...

:P I do put on bug repellent when I go out though.

But I haven't let buggies be the reason not to take the dogs out. My problem is just summoning up the energy and will power to take the dogs out right now. And its probably going to be like that until I have this baby @.@.. At least I have my work out plan here waiting for me! LOL.

I'm actually fixing to start waking up early and try getting out and walking both dogs one at a time for about 15 minutes each in the morning and taking them running in the evening. Helps with the pregnancy and the dogs will love getting walked LOL.

yea I donno when I was pregnant no bugs bit me even without repellent, now no matter what repellent I have on they bite the crap outa me and I just wont risk Katie, she is my heart and soul and I will not take that risk with her, we have had 2 cases and both were really bad, in a small town like this 2 cases is enough to put the hospitals and town on high alert because its a 45 minute drive to the 1st actual true hospital and they only have 1 lifeflight so yea not risking it. If I had someone I could have watch her every day for 2 hours I would totally go walking which is the so sucky thing because I wanna walk lol I don't care about me getting bit up or sick or anything

LOL! Well Mosquito season should be just about over. Its starting to get too cool for them. And I wish I wouldn't get bit! They love me for some reason! LOL .... But I don't blame you for not wanting to risk the baby. Since both cases have been in or around your small town. If they where in MY small town I would probably stay indoors too.

Ellie, have you thought about getting a stroller with mosquito screen? I've seen strollers and those bike trailers for kids both with screen you zipper closed to keep the bugs of babies and toddlers. Might be worth the investment to be able to walk the dog. The baby'd probably be willing to ride in the stroller or trailer for the next 3 years or so.

I so wish it was almost the end of mosquito season here I beleive its going to be in the high 80s for the next month or so still, maybe by Halloween it will be the end of the season though

wow MJJean, I have never seen those around here, I will have to look into it for a Christmas present for Katie since I am sure it will be out of my budget for this season

Check Craigslist, Kijiji, yard sales and resale shops. A lot of people buy them and don't use them much because they overestimated their ability and desire to walk often. Then they sell em in good shape for a lot less than new.

I plan on making Goodwill stops here soon-ish now that I know what I am having. I'll keep an eye out for a stroller with a screen on it. That is actually a very good idea.

Oh, and maybe join your local Freecycle. I see a lot of baby gear and clothing listed there. You search ads, send an email or make a call and then go pick whatever you're looking for up from the person giving it away. Good stuff goes fast, though, so you gotta check a few times a day and even more frequently on weekends.

Absolutely, and I look forward to our daily walks. Even my husband enjoys it, especially when he walks Trigger and I walk Jasmine. She gets the zoomies after a walk, so we spend another half hour in the backyard too! Both dogs are much happier getting a good walk in.They are more content and less likely to get bored and tear up stuff too.

I definitely notice a firming up in the right places and I know it is just a BIG plus all the way around.

I love walking, hiking, swimming, and exercising with my dog. I've always been an outdoorsy person, and I love seeing the happiness and fulfilment my boy gets from being with me. There's nothing quite like it. I work out some without him, but most of my exercise is Henry related.

I'm in great physical shape and my health is excellent. I have a very stressful job that I am able to deal with (hell, even laugh at) because I exercise with my boy. It's like it relaxes me mentally. It's very rare that I get angry or upset. Sure, I'm a naturally chill person, but working with my dog definitely contributes to it.
