Well...my parents old dog just died a few months back....and my Mom put out an invite for me to bring the "grrlz" up.
I think she misses having a dog in the house, but thinks at this point she's too old to have another dog. She's 77yr. and in poor health.
So.....since Sassafrass is the best behaved in the house and the best traveler....she'll be coming along on our first post-Socks visit. :D

The tea comes from the tree (bark of the roots)

I, personally, have never used the tea medicinally for anything so make no claims other than my personal experience that after drinking about a quart of it, I felt completely relaxed and sleepy. A gallon of the tea doesn't last very long around my house but I only make it once or twice a year.

Well we have a HUGE thanksgiving every year... my family doesn't get together much as we are all spread out... but I go with my wife and her family..

Her brother in law is a big Mason... and so we go to the lodge and her whole family comes and any of the Masons that don't have family or whatever can come too...

We usually cook ALOT of BBQ, a couple of Turkeys and a couple of Hams.. all the fixings you would want... cornbread, dressing, cat head biscuits.. etc etc...

I always bring my AWESOME mashed potatoes.... last year I took 10 pounds and we ran out.

Thursday, we are going to Stan's brother's house. We are bringing a fried Turkey. It's always the most awkward time. No one really talks, and if Stan's brother says anything it's usually about his work, or some snide comment toward Stan, and I just bit my tongue, because I don't want to start anything. lol.

Friday, we are going to Stan's son's in-laws. We are going to bring another fried Turkey. lol. I always enjoy events at their house. They are all so kind and friendly people.

Maybe Stan's bro is jealous of the fact that Stan has a young honey !!

That sounds like a good deal for everyone else!
I love cornish game hens! I do them with a wild rice stuffing and a pomegranite glaze

It's funny how I'm so late getting on the fried turkey band wagon!
I agree with Debbie, he's just jealous!

LOL... a cat head biscuit is a southern delicacy!!! its a big fluffy biscuit the size of a cat's head :D My Nana made arguably the best in the world!!

This recipe is about the same thing except she used lard instead of bacon drippings or anything.

if you use your biscuits for "sopping" or like them with gravy..
you just can not do any better....
real biscuits, not that shit that comes from whopping one of those tubes from the store on the counter... and they call those things "flakey"....
to me.. flakey describes the folks that eat those things...

My family no longer celebrates the holidays, so I will be going with my kids to their other grand parents house. I'm taking Rasberry Jello Salad with cream cheese topping. I make it every year. It's now the "replacement" for regular cranberry salad. You use a can of whole berry cranberry sauce and it's not bitter like regular cranberry sauce is. My daughter is making homemade mac & cheese... which probably means I am making homemade mac & cheese. Not sure the son will be there, he has to go to the g/f's house for their dinner.
