While playing fetch, Tessa jumped off a wall about 4ft high & landed badly on the soft ground below. She returned to play some more but was on 3 legs!! I carried her into the house checked the leg & called the vet. The vet confirmed that she has torn her ligament in her rear leg & also torn some cartilage. She goes for surgery on Tuesday the 11th. Please keep her in your thoughts & prayers, she's going on 8 this fall and it will be 3+ months for recovery as I am sure some of you who have experienced this know. Any advice on after care is welcome, the little things they may not think to tell you. They have given me aftercare/physio instructions to follow.

Wishing Tessa the best for a successful surgery and speedy recovery (I am afraid I have no experience with this surgery and healing process).

Awww crap Cindy...I'm so sorry to hear this..:(..poor Tessa! You must be beside yourself with worry...I know I would..it's hard to see your baby hurting! I'm afraid I don't have any info on the recovery end. Give Tessa a big hug for me.

Are you still going to the show tomorrow? I'm hoping to drop by tomorrow afternoon.

Keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers. Bella ended up with two torn ACL injuries within 2 months apart. Right now, we aren't considering surgery since she is so young, and I have a prescription of Rimadyl on hand at all times for those days when she seems to limp more. Keep her from jumping (which is hard) and don't let her full out run. Other than that, lots of rest, and she'll need tons of crate time after surgery, which stinks because it's hard to keep them still.

Thanks again everyone. Tomorrow's the big day for her. At the vet appt last week, he said that if she was 1-2 years old he would be pretty sure that I could expect the other to also tear. Given that she is almost 8 he is confident that it was just a fluke accident and nothing genetic. That was good to know !

just follow the doctors advise for the medication, diet and exercises.. a scheduled follow up visits to the vet would guide you as well for her full recovery. i'm sure with our tender loving care..everything will just go well..:)

I spoke to the Dr earlier this evening and he said
that the CCL tear was quite bad , she really did a number on it. The cartilage much the same, They had to remove quite a bit to repair it. There was no secondary damage & no wear signs which meant it all happened at the time of injury & not over months/years. He said the joint was healthy & now has good stability & flexability. They put in 2 40lb nylon ligaments to replace the torn one. He feels that with proper aftercare she will heal successfully & should be able to carry on pretty much as before the injury. The aftercare is my part to be responsible 4. Having had a knee replacement myself I know how crucial everything is & how important to follow all the instructions :)
