Support Requested for Little Boy Mauled by Dog

Kevin Vincente is plastered all over the news. A google search will answer your questions if you don't know the story of Kevin and Mickey (the dog that mauled him). I won't go into the debate, but what I will say is regardless of which side (if any) you are on, one fact is certain, there is a little boy sitting in a hospital bed right now after being mauled by his babysitter's dog. I strongly urge all responsible dog owners to reach out to this family and show them we value this boy's life. They are receiving a lot of support of course from BSL supporters, and sadly there is a lot of hate directed at this child (a child) by those wanting to save the dog's life. This sends the message that dog lovers hate children and dog haters love children, which is totally false. No matter which side you're on regarding if Mickey should be saved or not, it's important for us all to remember this is just a young, little, scared, and injured boy and he deserves a community to wrap their loving arms around him while he heals.

He's in 5T clothes, loves power rangers and super heroes. His mother is a single mother who has lost significant work hours and income to be by Kevin's side during his recovery. I'm sure they would appreciate anything you can spare. Donations, cards, words of encouraging support, children's pictures, etc can be sent to Kevin Vincente, c/o Hospital de Ninos, 2303 E Thomas Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85016.

If you'd like to donate an item but either can't get out of the house or don't want to deal with shipping, I've created an Amazon wishlist that will ship any item on it directly to the address aforementioned.

I've been reading some of the comments on this and it makes me sick. Blaming the poor kid and saying it wasnt a mauling, just a nip. People disgust me sometimes. How can they be more concerned with the dog than this poor child?
Anyway, I'm not financially available to give much but I'll see what I can dig up. Thanks for posting this!

wow what a shame. This could have so easily been avoided. The owners obviously knew the dog was territorial and the kids mother should know better than to let her child go pick up the dogs bone. So i can certainly understand both sides, but like you said at the end of the day there is a little boy who didn't know any better very hurt and needs support. bless his poor little heart.

Ok I dont want to get this thread off track because this is about the poor boy BUT his mother is in no way to blame! She wasnt there. He was in a babysitters care. They went to her (the babysitter) boyfriends house who owned Mickey. The boyfriend surrendered the dog after the incident and the girlfriend has publicly stated she wants to see the dog euthanized after the vicious attack.

Yes, it's quite a heated debate, heated on both sides, both sides spewing some pretty hateful words. It truly doesn't seem the mainstream media has the legitimate facts straight yet, and I suspect we'll all see more of this story come to light as the weeks pass. Because of the passionate nature of supporters of both sides, I actually hesitated about making this thread, but I did so because, as I said, regardless of the side one stands, this is a little boy after all, so we can be humans about that fact and stand in support of putting a smile back on his face. :)

Good news is several people have already started buying things off the list and sending them to Kevin. So far, he'll be receiving superman pjs, a snuggly teddy bear, and a few dvds before week's end. His mother states he will be thrilled. So we're glad about that.

I too will see what I can do financially.

Thank you for saying this! No matter how well one manages a dog- if a dog mauls a human being under anything but extreme self defense circumstances, it doesn't need to be in society. Period. Over-n-Out. There is no shortage of good dogs in the world.

Kevin got the bear I sent him. Doesn't this pic just warm your heart? :) I know people have spoken of finances, and trust me, I totally understand!!! I've put several $5-$10 items on his wishlist so even those of us that are strapped right now can still send him a little something to brighten his day. I will say, that's about the best $17 I've spent in a long, long time. A little really does go a long way.

Ya this was soooooo not a nip! I love dogs especially the pit bull breed but even if my dog attacked a child I would have her put down. I couldn't live with knowing that my own kids wouldn't be safe around her and I would constantly worry about her getting loose and hurting one of my kids or someone else's. It would hurt because I love her but I just wouldn't be able to keep her anymore and knowing that she would be put down anyway if I gave her up, I would just take her to be put down myself. I hope he recovers and doesn't have any lasting fears of dogs because not all of then are bad. I hope he gets well soon. :)

I have a 4 year old son, and this story breaks my heart. This could have been prevented with simple supervision. The girlfriend (babysitter) stated that they knew that the dog was vicious, also the dog does look under weight IMO and that may be why he acted so aggressively to guard the bone. Whatever the reason, i will not state my opinion on the dogs fate. This is an example of irresponsible dog owners. If im not mistaken the dog was chained outside, and probably spent its whole life on a chain with little socialization, but i am only assuming. What's most important is this poor little boy. Thanks for including the info for sending donations, I hope he recovers soon.

Here's a pic that was posted yesterday of Kevin and some of his new gifts (his eye was uncovered for a short time so the doctors could check it's progress):

Items for Kevin's mom were added to the list, and there is a new link:

I also started a Facebook page and am not allowing anyone to post anything negative on it. The page is for support for Kevin, only. You can search for it if you like, Unbiased Support for Kevin Vincente. :)

  16. I hope he has a speedy recovery, poor baby. The dog (regardless of breed)deserves a dirt nap, period. There shouldn't be any arguing over that fact.

Thanks for updating the link Missy. I must say the public's support through the wishlist has been astonishing. Kevin receives daily gifts of clothes, dvds, books, play dough, a leapster, games, a teddy bear, coloring supplies... Anyone that's met a 4yr old little boy knows their energy. It's hard keeping a normal little boy still, let alone one hooked to feeding and breathing tubes. :( All these things help tremendously. His mother has received a robe, journal, pens, pencils, puzzle book, and an android tablet. His youcaring fundraising page has raised $6300 also!!!! That money will ensure his mother's rent and bills are paid while she stays with Kevin in the hospital during these long months of surgery. She is obviously not working while staying by his side and is a single mother. My own mother lost her home, her high-level Aramark job, and went bankrupt while staying by my then 23yr old brother's side when he recovered from a near death experience in 2006, so this is just an incredible support story all around. Warms my heart daily.
