im not sayin theyre not mean & dangerous, but so are pirahnas and boa constrictors and people have those!! if you ask me the boas and pythons that get like 20 ft & shit are more dangerous than a snapper.
put it this way i can go into the snappers cage and be carefull. them damn boas can get out & get ya while your sleepin!

see you have to have a permit now in Florida to even have a constrictor believe, they have changed the snale laws recently. Maybe Florida is just more strict than some other states. If you get caught transporting a gopher tortise it is like a $300 fine

In NJ it's illegal to own a turtle, at least that's what a friend told me.

Probably because they can survive with relative ease in the wild there. eek, how would you like one of those dining on your chi?

yeah, we are having a very hard time with Pythons being released into the Everglades. The stricter constrictor laws began when one got out of it's enclosure, bit a child and constricted around her in her sleep not too long ago, the child died.

She wasn't she was in her room. The snake was kept in an enclosure and it got out of it and the snake went into the childs room.

oh i though someone turned it loose nd it grew big and ate the child. anyways back to the snapper ima keep him in a cage and not let him eat kids, that should make it ok right.

:no2:, lets let the wild be wild, in the wild and leave it at that

yea but if you say that then your saying that people that have paint turtles (wild!) & sliders (wild in china) r wrong for keepimg wild animals. then what about people that keep tropical fish? (gator gars, florida gars, pacu, red tail catfish) i mean most exotic animals are naturally wild. so whats the difference in a turtle?

I saw an episode of Dirty Jobs a couple days ago and the show was about snapping turtles. They are becoming extinct. Some of the turtles they caught were HUGE! I would not want my dog anywhere near them! As far as keeping one as a pet, there are certain animals that are meant to be kept in the wild, snapping turtles being one of them. :)

Alligator snapping turtles are on the endangered species list.

Just thought I'd chime in. Yeah, I'd leave the turtles in the wild where they belong (especially the Snappers). Alligator Snappers were once very common many years ago in the South. There population was decimated mostly because millions were killed for their meat (turtle soup was once a popular dish).
If I'm correct, the Common Snapper is found primarily up North. Alligator Snappers can get to be BIG MO FO's. LOL! Years ago I had an opportunity to see some first hand. I actually got to hold an 80 lb specimen, it was a pretty awesome. They really look prehistoric, like something out of the dinosaur era. Wish I had taken a few pics at the time. But nontheless, it was neat to see these creatures up close.

they do belong in the wild.
along with paint turtles, sidenecked turtles, softshells (u see em in aquarium with fish), red eared sliders, desert tortoises (see em in petsmart lol) and thats juss talkin turtles!
dont get me started wit fish (gator gar, arapaima,RTC,)
my point is theyre all wild animals in a sense. but because the snapper is dangerouse makes it off limits as a hobby pet?

what about them damn boas you see everybody with? the ones that get 2 be like 30 ft and they get out and eat the neighbors dog and shit? your tellin me that its ok to own something that size, but because a snapper is big and mean then its off limits?
