So last weekend I was out clearing out my pool's skimmer basket and lookie what I found inside.....
The water was freezing cold....and I lifted him out, thought the poor thing was dead.
I put him in the palm of my hand and was inspecting him...and he stretched a little leg....
Then I took him inside the house, and as he started warming up, he came to.:D
Thankfully it was a sunny day, and I took him down to the pond and put him in a nice sunny spot on a log.

Thanks CHJ, we get those and Painted turtles...I'm just totally out to lunch on when those babies hatch. They don't seem to have a concrete time of year. So it always surprises me when I find one so close to winter. :D

I'd never think about keeping a Snapper, do you know how big those suckers get ?....

Yes sir we do.....I live across the street from a protected wet land, home to a whole bunch of critters.
We have Snappers and Painted turtles that come up to our property every Spring and lay their eggs....
I've even camcorded a big Snapper Mama laying her eggs, amazing !!
The eggs are about the size of golf balls.

What's even better is seeing me standing out in the middle of the road making sure the mama has safe passage back to the pond.
The Painted turtles I'll pick up and move to the other side.....but not the Snappers...

It's a common snapper, Adam. The scutes are spiky when they hatch and wear down over time. Makes them less vulnerable to predators and is better camo under water.
Thanks for saving the little booger and letting him go, Debbie :D

Yes, they sure do wear down with time....
Some of those bigger Snappers that come up look like something from the Prehistoric depths.....

One Snapper that came up(years ago) was almost as big around as one of those plastic turtle sandboxes they make for kids.....
It was scary looking....it hissed, growled, and was very aggressive...amazing how fast those things can move when they're pissed off....

I love helping the wildlife when I can....:sonn_u11:

LOL! Yeah, they're vile creatures. Snappers are born cranky, I think.

My dads old gun dog is always finding one and pissing it off. I am just sure she will end up without a nose eventually.
