my BFs best freind owns a meat processing plant and he gave me all of the venison parts that they were going to junk anyways. i actually had my freezer break down for a short while during and lost about 100 pounds of vension due to spoiling was so upset!

I so need to get a meat score, asked a local grocery store today...no extras at the end of the day, the guy said they make stew meat and such with it...I will ask the other local grocery and cross my fingers

Hey, anytime you want to send Callie up north, she's a mouth I'd feed without hesitation! ;)

    $30!!! Awesome steal!

I paid $200 or $250 the summer before last for my chest freezer, it's a 4ft. But, it still had the tags on it! It's like a $600-$700 freezer so I sucked up the cost knowing that it will last. This is my third freezer since raw feeding, two pooched on me, so hopefully this one lasts longer!

I wish I knew the hunter crew around here to get venison, you're lucky!

oh yeh i was super stoked when i found it on craigslist i almost screamed lol! i was even more excited when they offerd to hual it here and move it for me to the basement!
i did need to be refilled with freon but otherwise its worked out great.

grab a phone book and find some meat processors in your area-when hunting season comes round they are pretty happy to hand off there trash for other to deal with! i had 2 meat processors offer me meat, i had to turn them down because they are too far away.

Last night I took out all of my meat and processed some of it down. I had a 20# chunk of beef scraps and a 30# chunk of turkey gizzards. Broke it all down to multiple bags. Without the huge chunks, I've found that I'll be out of food in April or May. Which means my 6 month supply that I posted about in August was almost a years worth of food. Lol granted I've bought some chicken here and there but I've been mostly really good about only using what I have. I'll get a pic of it to post later.

I hear ya on that _unoriginal, my hauls I got in August lasted me till 2 days ago lol, I have bought some beef and chicken thighs here and there but that was it, pretty darn good I think, I am trying to find a place where I can get stuff cheaper (like heart meat or lung meat, something), then looking for another score wont be so much of an issue

Found out today that the buffalo supplier is done, farm shut down. :( So now we're on the hunt for another place to get more rare proteins, got a lead today! Fingers crossed!

And I go to quite a few of the local abbatoirs in the surrounding area, my friend supplies 20+ people with raw and a lot of the more rare stuff gets contracted out to the zoo's and other raw businesses'. Plus, from the looks of some peoples' garages, people still process their own stuff! LOL

Nice that's got some size to it! I was super pissed that I missed a $30 nice chest freezer locally the other day, there's always tons for sale but usually people want $100+ for them. My "people" freezer is actually packed to the gills because our beef came in so I am limited on space. The dogs have two freezers, one chest, one upright but I've only got space for maybe another 150 pounds right now between them. Now's the time of year I could really use extra space with hunting season and thanksgiving. There's a lady selling a couple pigs cheap and if I had the money and space I would be all over that for the dogs but of course I have neither. Raw feeding woes!

^ I told someone a couple months ago that I'd go in for a quarter grass fed cow in November. I came across a really good deal a month ago and now I have no space. I kind of hope the guy forgets to call me.

After years of having a chest freezer and growing up with chest freezers, I got the wise idea that I had to have an upright. I got the biggest upright made by Whirlpool. Nothing but trouble. It took almost 6 months of complaining and inspections and making little fixes until they replaced the compressor (or something) and declared it "good". And I gave up. Still doesn't freeze to the true safe range. Right on the edge.

I will say too that unless you are at least a little OCD, an upright might not be the best thing. It's an organizer hog. I admire Goingpostal's pics. Mine will never look like that beauty! Open the door and watch your toes as you might get hit with a chicken or something rolling out.... :)

If I had space and could do it over again, I'd buy 2 smaller chest freezers and put them side by side. No space though... and too expensive.
