Every day there is another state talking BSL,as far as I am concerned the bulk of this
issue has nought to do with pitbulls, but merely little nobody councillors needing to pass some laws that they can enforce as there main target becomes the law-abiding.Also these sweet begging letters creates the power syndrome which most of these incompetents have never really had, suddenly they have the power to MURDER
and be protected by the law.Invariably the mayor cannot tell the difference between
a pit and a maltese poodle so they not even interested in stats and real facts. Most of the time the illustrious mayor gets his advice from his animal control officer who very often is of low intellect and suddenly he is going to be the most feared member of the city,he will have the power to come into your home and take your cocker -
spaniel alleging he is a pitbull.Take Doug Kelley of Denver he plays G-D on a daily
basis,I reckon while he is under the Genocidal Maniac Kory Nelson he controls

My suggestion on a solution is when these councillors start mentioninig this EVIL
and Heinous piece of Illegal legislation start campaigning against them to vote them out of power and make it known to them what your reasons and intentions are.
Secondly I am surprised that a deputation has not been put together to approach your new president as I understand he is anti-BSL and apparently he Banned it in his state when he was a Senator, also he does appear to be a Decent Human Being.
And Finally all these smaller blogs etc. on the net should try and consolidate all
together and make a force, most of the efforts are spent CONVERTING the CONVERTED.Most of us that read these threads know that BSL is Heinous and EVIL
and was created by Adolph Hitler. How many Americans lost their lives in the second
World War fighting for your FREEDOM you do not have the right to relinquish this.

I just updated my BSL letter. Feel free to use it, edit it, critique it or whatever :)

    Dear Sir or Madam,
Breed Specific Legislation, laws banning or restricting ownership of the 3 breeds of dog commonly referred to as "Pit bulls", is often the result of fear and panic in the wake of a dog attack or because of media sensationalism. BSL, as these laws are knowm, is difficult, expensive and time consuming to enforce as well as being unfair to responsible dog owners. Any dog of any breed can be dangerous to the public when the owner or handler fails to properly train and contain their dog.

In some cities, BSL has been successfully challenged in court on the grounds that is violates the 14th Ammendment. On July 26, 2010 the Department of Justice issued a final ruling regarding Pit Bulls as service dogs under the Americans with Disabilities Act that states “The Department of Justice does not believe that it is either appropriate or consistent with the ADA to defer to local laws that prohibit certain breeds of dogs based on local concerns that these breeds may have a history of unprovoked aggression or attacks.â€

The American Temperament Testing Society evaluated 122 breeds and found that the American Staffordshire Terrier, one of the breeds that falls under the umbrella term "Pit Bull", passed 83.9 percent of the time, just behind the Golden Retriever (84.6 percent). Other breeds commonly referred to as "pit bulls" performed well. The American Pit Bull Terrier (86 percent) and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier (89.6 percent). The statistics are as of June 12, 2010 and can be found at the American Temperament Tesing Society web site here
http://atts.org/. Click Breed Statistics to see a listing of breeds and their pass rate arranged in alphabetical order.

A recent study by the American Veterinary Association also found that breed specific laws do not prevent dog bites. The article by the Canine Research Council with links to the AVMA study can be found here http://nationalcanineresearchcouncil.com/dog-news/

Many professional animal organizations have made public statements opposing BSL including the
    American Veterinary Association,
    The American Kennel Club
    The Humane Society
    The SPCA
    National Animal Control Association
    Association of Pet Dog Trainers
National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors
    Canadian Kennel Club
    National Animal Interest Alliance
    American Animal Hospital Association
International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants
    American Humane Association
    American Temperament Testing Society
American Dog Owner’s Association and the International Association of Canine Professionals among others.

As a responsible dog owner, I respectfully urge you to vote against laws that target specific breeds of dog and to vote in favor of non-breed specific laws that focus on enforcing existing leash and containment laws, owner responsibility and individual dog behavior.

While BSL is not a danger where I live, I've recently picked out my puppy. When my Mother In Law found out, she's been going a bit nutty and I used your letter to give her some actual information. She lives in an area that is considering BSL and believes the media hype. Thank you for posting your letter, as I'm certain I'm not the only one that can use it for other purposes.
