so I had my friend who has had reptiles since she was like 10 watching Xanis for us since we had the baby. Well yesterday she said somehow she got out of her enclosure, they are going to keep searching the house but the house has been under construction and has holes in it :( I just hope whatever happens to her its fast. Its a lesson learned for them and us, they normally don't put lids on there lizards that don't climb and so somehow she got out. The only good thing is it means when I have time again for a Leo Gecko I am going to go to a reptile show and get a well bred one instead of a petshop (I loved her tangerine though so will probably get that kinda morph or one of the albino morphs.

I still trust her in watching my animals, she is one that actually learns from her mistakes and this one is as much my fault as hers, she said she didn't need the lid so I didn't send it with the tank (I used one just to make sure I wouldn't lose any crickets)

RIP little gecko because I am sure we wont find you.

Putting flour along door openings can possibly help. I don't know if it'll show much difference for a leo but works for snakes.I hope she does turn up. :(

good idea, I will tell her about that, and since she has a corn snake its something good for her to know in general, wish I woulda known that when I had a corn snake get out (somehow my ex didn't close the lid all the way...at least it was a native species)

I don't know how well it would work for a leo, but putting a brained mouse in a box with a heat pad under it could draw them in too.It could also draw him in as a warm hide in case it's cold. Some have used crumpled news paper instead of flour.

Found this on a leo site

    I'm sorry :( But don't lose hope!

I stupidly didn't think my Kenyan sand boa baby could climb out of a 10g tank with nothing in it... Ha! I was WRONG! Woke up one morning to an empty tank :( I searched and searched... and gave up hope.

About three weeks later, my then-girlfriend was pulling the comforter out from behind the couch (like we'd done a dozen or more times since he'd gone missing)... and plop! Out fell my little snake, no worse for wear!

So sometimes... they DO turn up :)

A couple years after I got my snake, a ball python (I guess she was 2 at the time, -ish), she got out. She had a top on her tank (one of those mesh ones with little plastic hooks to hook it on). We were like, she can't get out. She ended up being able to push the top off and slink away. I'm pretty sure it was my grandma who finally was like "well maybe it's hungry", bought a couple mice from petco, put them in the feeding tank with a lid on it. A day later we found the snake curled up on top of the feeding tank, trying to figure out a way to get to the mice.

It was cold out, so she probably never left the walls. Just the thought of a snake living in the walls of my house creeped me out . She's still alive and well at 12ish years old.

Oh, and she now has bricks on her cage. Hasn't escaped since.

Hope you find your little girl. That's unfortunate. But maybe some yummy food will get her to come out.

I will tell her about the containers, she found droppings last night! I was very happy, told her about the flour so she is doing that now (I was out of town so this is the 1st time I have read this since I got back) and I hope it gives some inidication on where the little bugger is hiding, I am just scared its ganna somehow get in with her bearded dragon and chomp chomp. I think we are lucky it turned cold again so maybe she will be found and not just have "tracks" of her being around. If not well I think any bugs that get into my friends house will soon be taken care of (she lives in the woods and by a farmers field so yea she gets bugs a lot) cross our fingers and toes that we get Xanis back no worse for wear. I wish she would just hang out by the cricket cage trying to get the food but no luck there yet lol

that is way cool LL, good to know if I know someone that loses a snake.

My housitter did not latch my enclosure, and a colonyof solomon island skinks all escaped. We found all but one big female rather quickly.

2 months later, while out on the back deck,I looked out in the pear tree, and there she was!!!! She was in fine shape, but I quarantined her and she was fine.

Now, the tank full of crested gecko hatchlings?? I only found 2 of them after the cat broke the screentop.

The flour idea is fantastic. We have caught many escapees by taking a bucket, putting crickets in the bottom (or a mouse for a snake) and then surrounding it with pillows so it is easy to climp up and fall in.

Xanis is looking no worse for wear, and is orange and green now, a lot more color since I saw her over a month ago, I can't wait till I get her back, but I know I cant handle it all right now and she is getting tame over there

Yay! I am OCD about all of my enclosures lids. I do not want my cats to get at my reptiles so I make sure they all are locked.
