Rude members?

Hi there!

Hope that this comment doesn't bother anybody but I want to share this thought.

This forum is helping me a lot, and I really apreciate the active members that constantly try to give good advice to others, that's just excellent!

By the other hand, I read posts about people that look for help, and sometimes is people that doesn't know much about dogs (just like me) or aren't aware of the risks of being an irresponsible pitbull owner or doesn't know the breed, or doesn't know about positive reinforcement, feeding, etc., etc., etc. Those persons are looking for help but sometimes they receive replies with very rude answers from other members that are more experimented. That's not fair. I mean, if a person is here it's because they're searching for info to look after their dogs.

Well, I just want to share that. Maybe you, moderators, can give a little reprimand to those members when they cross the line.

Greetings!

Some members are "rude" because people come here with the same stupid questions over, and over, and over. They rush out and get a dog without doing ANY research. Sorry, but these people should have some idea about what to feed their dog BEFORE they got it. They should already know not to haul their Pit Bull to a dog park, and WHY. They should know something about pedigrees, breeding, health testing, and raising a litter BEFORE they rushed into breeding their dogs. If they know absolutely nothing about the breed, they probably shouldn't own one to begin with.

I'm personally GLAD that this forum isn't overly-moderated like most of the forums out there. There are PLENTY of furmommy forums that micromanage and make members hold hands while they moderate and issue warnings or bans for every post that could potentially be considered offensive to another member.

I'm agree with you. But being rude with ignorant people is not going to fix the problem of the existence of ignorant people. Instead of that, I think it would be better to give them an start point to improve their knowledge about dogs, breed, etc. By the other hand, if that people is being cynical, I don't have a problem if other members are being rude with them.

Ignorance is counteracted with knowledge, not with rudeness.

That may be true but most of the "rude" comments that people complain about are anything but. I see more DIRECT posts than rude posts.

The people that complain about the rude posts are the same ones that tell US what we don't know because they're been taught by some bleeding heart and the rest of us were taught by those in the know. Use a little more common sense and read the information readily available.

And pretty much what SevenSins said.

There are rude posts on here because we have some rude, bitchy people on here and like was said above, we don't overmoderate. It's the interweb, they're anonymous, and they're pretty much safe from any real consequences. We pretty much let people say what they want as long as it doesn't get too out of hand. Its the same rules that apply to freedom of speech in the real world. You can say what you want, but be prepared to hear something you don't want to hear.

I agree with SevenSins as well, most of the "rude" posts I see, are more direct and blunt than downright rude...and after being a member for a few years, and seeing just HOW MANY ignorant, lazy people there are, who post the SAME questions over and over and over, I totally get it. In fact, some of those "rude" posts are probably from me. ;)

Pretty much anyone who knows how to use the internet can handle using something like Google, or Bing, or whatever....where there are ready answers to ANY question in the world...so I think it's just a lack of patience for lazy people who adopt/buy/breed dogs without doing the slightest bit of research into what the hell they should be doing...and then come to forums like this, and post the same question that's been answered 500 times on here already...just shows that they don't know how to use the forum search feature either I guess......and there's that lazy thing again....smh.... common sense goes a LONG way.....

I was actually considering compiling a message containing a list of relevant stickies, info etc and saving it. Then copy/paste it. Because I am one who fets very direct when I click on 5532584382 posts a day that are either "why is my petbull aggressive help!" and "my dog ate my cat!" Or "help my dogs ear is bleeding and he's vomiting blood! Please diagnose him!!" .... it gets daunting. I like helping people and if you really read through threads I think most of our responses go by the attitude of the OP. Because even if it starts out ok .... many come back and see what they didnt want to hear then hit CAPSLOCK TO EMPHASIZE RAGE!!! 11!!!!

I actually do this. I had quite a few generic responses that reference various threads and stickies. But I'm often posting from my phone (like now) so it's more of a pain in the ass to do that.

As said, we don't 'over' moderate like it's done on other discussion forums, IF someone gets out of hand we ask that you hit the report button on the offending post, and send a report about it so that the staff can address it directly. You're right, rudeness is not alright - personal attacks and the like are not tolerated. We do let members voice their opinions as long as it does not cross the line and break rules.

The RIP Raven thread is a great example. I saw it on my phone so didn't know who it was. So I was sympathetic.. I assumed they simply made a (albiet horrible) mistake. Then I got on my computer and realized who it was and you're damn right I called them out. This person who lied about breeding, sold off puppies to whoever had money, talked out her ass then KILLS her dog with her own stupid choice? Hell yes. I think, and maybe I have once or twice but don't recall, I'm very forward and often condescending when people push me. But I try my best not to resort to name calling etc. But I will engage in an arguments and, because I'm human, sometimes I may get TOO "rude". But shit.. when you post about your litter of puppies.. act like everyone here is an asshole.. then come back and post how YOU KILLED YOUR OWN DOG via negligence? Yes... I'm going to be an asshole.

I've got the point. But I'm not and I'll not agree with it. Thanks for replying!

No one is forcing you to stay, like its been stated there are plenty of fur mommy forums just dont expect them to be very educated.

People on here are blunt which is often taken as rude, we don't sugar here that, leads to mis information.

It's all rainbows and butterflies until the Boogie man awakens!

Seriously though, I have come to realize that this here forum is kind of like a huge extended family as we have something in common. When a family member does or says something stupid or is acting like an ass for no good reason, something will be said. What most new members fail to realize is that their stupidity reflects upon us all (just like a family). Whether you want to admit it or not what you do with your dog could cost us our dogs.

When I came to this forum I tried to read all I could before posting. I have had a few tongue lashings from my "elders" and you know what. I didn't get all butt hurt, I learned and moved on.

Lol! I thought of boogie, too!!!

But yes you are correct. When I first joined I posted copper up knowing I was still working on her weight. Instead of getting upset by the input I listened to it and the advice here got my dogs weight down.

The difference, of course, is that the beatdown someone might get on PBC is ultimately constructive and backed by good intentions and common sense. It's all for the wellbeing and safekeeping of the dogs.

Yup yup yup!

When it comes to these dogs, owners need to take things seriously. Sometimes, the only way of making sure a message sticks is through a little tough love. That's what it is too... Everyone here loves these dogs and the bull breeds. When people come and post questions or make statements that show a way of thinking that could lead to disaster and cost a dog its life, then a little shake-awake is in order.

I like that the forum isn't over-moderated. I think there's a lot more to be learned because of it.

Besides.... You need a thick skin to own these dogs. If you can't handle a little Boogie beatdown on PBC, then you can't handle the comments people will hurl your way when walking your bull breed in public.

It's ok. The diversity of thoughts is the essence of every community. It's just that I don't like the fact that someone looking for help (despite of being lazy or irresponsible) sometimes receive just shit replies with no positive suggestion. You don't have to like my idea, this is a discussion forum. I posted this thread on the feedback/suggestions to see what you think. Here's a lot of people with valuable info, so I wont quit, I like this forum, a lot! You have helped me with lots of good info and advices to change my dog's life for the better!

But, from my point of view, the rude replies generally come from women with non-objective approaches. If the shoe fits, wear it.
