I need to find out what she is allergic to. I do not understand why the Vet. Did not do allergy tests. I know she has environmental allergies, however, if it is from a protein, it would be helpful to know which one. We are questioning if we should hold off on poultry for a while. If I stop raw feeding I would try a kibble with fish. That is is only thing we have not tried yet.

I need help. I only bought five pounds of bravo beef this week because I was unsure about what to do. People are suggesting that I avoid poultry for a while and see how she does. It was suggested that I keep her on beef for a month and see if there is any improvement.

what have you read? What kind of research have you done thus far?

I spent months on the Internet trying to figure out how to do this properly. I read numerous articles and feeding plans, etc. I watched you tube videos. Etc. I couldn't tell you specifically what I read. I read about the prey model vs. the BARF diet, etc. I was unsure about how much to feed and how to know that she would be getting proper nutrition. Also, the bones could be a problem because she inhales her food.

How do you teach the dog not to inhale whole pieces of meat and bone?

    Have you ever fed whole?

I started with whole Cornish game hens but anytng bigger then their throat they are going to learn to chew they have no choice.

Side note on protein allergies though. On kibble any amount of beef even a kibble or two would give Peanut explosive water diarrhea. Now with him eating raw he eats beef regularly and has no issues at all. It must have been something with the processing of the beef that triggered the reaction. Not telling you that this will solve allergies but this was my experience and something to look into.

Hi, thanks, I have always thought most of her skin issues are environmental. However, this most recent large hot spot is something that we never experienced. It makes me think it was from her new diet. I was rotating chicken and beef the first month, and then I added turkey and lamb. So if it was from food, I don't know which one. She only had bad diarrhea a few times in the 1 1/2 yrs. that we've had her.

There's nothing wrong with a dog just swallowing and not chewing. Dogs don't chew like people do. They only chew it down enough to swallow it.

Digestion for people starts in our mouths when we chew our food. Dogs' digestion begins in their stomachs.

So your dog may not gulp whole raw at all. You've just never given something that requires chewing.

That is true. What will you feed your dog this week? How much doesn't weigh? Do you feed once or twice daily?

I feed once daily. He's about 60 lbs. This week will be chicken quarters with pork, organs, and probably some ground beef.

Tonka weighs 55 lbs. she would love your dog's diet! My husband does not like how much more food obsessed she has gotten since we started the raw on 10/31. We had to stop her from charging at the fridge every time we opened it. She just followed me around for about two days when we started the diet and just stared at me. Then she decided she would not walk with my husband anymore. He thinks things are improving a bit since he started feeding her supper. Are you giving your dog about a pound of meat per feeding?

The size of the meal is going to be personal preference and dogs needs. I range meal size between 8-13 oz but I feed twice daily. He's pretty much an above normal activity dog naturally. I will say though the longer you feed it will become second nature.

As far as the behaviors I have not experienced anything like that with Peanut he could careless he's not crazy with feeding perhaps because he's been eating like this for years and started because kibble made him sick. However if it was me I would set boundaries and keep doing what you are doing with your husband feeding Tonka.

Tonka was doing better. Then she had a hot spot that got infected and they put her on cephlexin for 14 days. Now she is having terrible gas on the raw. I'm not sure if I should switch her to a canned food or what? She stopped the antibiotic a week ago from Yesterday.

They check the requests regularly so you should be accepted either later tonight or tomorrow because it's the weekend.
