    lol!
i try to sprinkle in some of my groceries so they don't think that i have strange eating habits :) when i came thru the check stand the checker made a comment "Awww poor bunny" I didn't say anything but i was thinking really your judging my groceries. The rabbit was already slaughtered I didn't bring a live bunny into the store let you pet it and then have it slaughtered and brought it back to your checkstand. I was about to say it was for my dog BUT thought better of it.

Soo I'm not up to green tripe yet but I just got an email from a wholesaler that's going to be making a 2600# drop-off in Chicago and he said he'll give me 50# of green tripe for $.50/lb

I think I'm gonna jump on it. :)

i am super excited!!! on March 7 only lamb necks and ribs are $1.59/ln!!! I am planning to spend $30. I am thawing out some of my current freezer goods so I can portion them tomorrow so that I will be able to have some extra space.

There was a gal on CL that had a sheep die in the field after a rough game of head butt, and she was GIVING it away...... I wanted it so bad but my husband said No, the neighbors would freak if there were a dead sheep just thrown in our back yard and the dogs were seen gnawing on it. I personally did not see what the issue was.

This is why I cannot WAIT to not have neighbors.

Ditto lol My neighbors would freak out too
But I recently read that you should freeze mutton meat for about a week first?

I don't know...... the dogs eat the discarded carcasses of all sorts of animals when we run them. I really am not much of a worrier so I am never too concerned. The only thing I do freeze is the Salmon/Steel head we get.

Hey destinoscelgo - do you remember why you should freeze it/where you read that? Just curious..

and last week I got three turkey split breasts for $1.99/lb when they're usually $3.29/lb, store marked them wrong :) Gotta love it.

I'm trying to remember what it's called, but it starts with an Hy something. It's a worm that is benign to dogs but if the dog gets it and it transfers to the human it can be deadly. I read it on another forum somewhere...

That's an awesome deal on the split turkey breasts!

Meh, mine haven't croaked or gotten wormy from getting into the dead pile at my parent's house. They like it best when its all rank and "seaoned". *gag*
And their BC is pretty much gorging himself of cow and sheep placentas right now. Ick.

Now Lily did have a bad time when she ate some wool she found in the pasture. That came right back up. On my bed no less. Good thing she is cute!

Yay ranch life! No pansy city dogs here, LOL.

Hyatid cysts are tapeworm larvae. :)

Responsible livestock raisers worm their stock regularly. We use Valbazen for sheep and injectible Ivermectin for the cows. :)

Thursday I am going to pick up a few lbs of mutton for Peanut. Gonna see how he does with it..not sure if the pricing is good though it is the first time my store has carried it. it is $2.47/lb

That's a lot for any meat IMO I will not pay more than $2/lb

eh i pay $6.99/lb for rabbit BUT i have to say I give him it like once a week maybe 2 times a week and i still have some rabbit left over. I would not pay a lot of something that is a staple but variety i don't mind paying a little more then what i would pay for poultry. I am trying to find some variety protiens that he can handle with no issues since we can't do beef for allergies and i won't do pork or fish due to my own reserves. I just want to get a little bit of mutton right now to see how he does with it.
