Sidenote: Thank you everyone for your responses. I know a topic like this is a hard one for us in a world of BYB puppies and overcrowded shelters, but education is key not flaming.

    Again, thanks!

I agree!! I also agree with every one that has said spay/abort. There are enough in animal shelters dying each day.

    Have a spay/abort done.

If you are not breeding to better the breed, you have no business breeding.

And why would you think the dog is "ruined"? And why would you even think of getting rid of the dog?

Oh...and FYI....if you have a Gotti Dog, she's already a mutt, so her typing up with one shouldn't be that big of a deal. ;)

as i have said several times....i married someone who had these dogs and i joined this site to ask questions to understand the breed and get advice. im not trying to be a breeder or any of that. i agree that the dog should be spayed as well and have had that talk with my husband but i think the ugly comments arent needed when i have come on here to just ask questions and nothing else. ive never said we were right or any of that. i married a man that had two pits....idk much about them other than what i have heard from what you guys call "idiot backyard breeders". I had hoped this site would help provide insight but I feel I have been more attacked than anything else. Theres no need to call our dog a mutt because of the breed. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion though. Thanks so much to everyone who has provided insight to this. I appreciate it and will share it with my husband. Have a great day !

Please stay and research the site and try to sift through what you think are attacks. The reason why your Gotti dog was called a mutt is because it's believed that the bloodline has had other breeds mixed in...I have a dog from the Razor's Edge bloodline and the same thing is believed with that line.

I know things (more so on the internet) can be taken as attacks, but please remember that everyone here really wants to help people understand this breed more than anything else. As a soon to be new pit bull owner myself...I came here thinking I knew quite a bit, but I've learned sooo much more. I really hope you will stick around and read and post more to help you understand more about your dogs. I know this isn't really anything to do with the original thread but I just wanted to put my 2 cents in.

    Hi,

I'm glad you came on asking for help.

Please stick around and learn more about the breed!

I think you may have taken some posts too personally.

Most here have very strong feelings on proper breeding practices.

Dogs should be worthy of being bred and not just bred because they are good pets or just because they can be especially do to the state of the breed with BSL BYBs and so many irresponsible owners not properly caring for their dogs.

No one really was attacking you from what I can see. They may have seemed harsh but many of us also are a bit sick of cleaning up after ooooops litters and watching great rescue dogs languish in shelters because there are no enough homes. Threads like this make me cringe. I don't feel people who do not know what they are doing besides putting two dogs together should be breeding and the questions you asked and info you posted lead me and others who posted to that conclusion.

Owning an intact dog is a TON of responsibility.

They are not ruined if they are not bred to a purebred dog however that litter will be mutts which is what people were talking about.

Dumping a dog after it has been bred would be sad and irresponsible.
I'm sorry that it didn't work out the way you planned but that isn't the dog's fault.

My feelings are you have two pretty clean cut options which would both be responsible ways to deal with this.

Option 1- spay abort and love her as a great pet. She is a cutie by the way :).

Option 2- She has the litter you carefully raise, socialize, train, worm give shots to, spay/neuter and place all the pups and spay her to make sure it doesn't happen again.
But be prepared to keep any pups you can't find good homes for. This option is a ton of work and responsibility and is why most people are not cut out to be breeders even when it is a planned liter

Please read some of the other threads on the forum about breeding.
    also
Here are two great informational sites that will help you learn more about the breed and proper breeding:
    http://www.apbtconformation.com/
    http://www.ukcpitbull.com/encyclopedia2/tiki-index.php

I'm closing the thread because I feel you have been given all the advice on this you will need and I don't want anyone taking digs.

Stick around , ask questions and learn....

Please remember when newbies come asking for help.... we should help them and not make them want to leave the forum.
