Pitbull meets dachshund

My daughter and her family just rescued an 18month old pink nose Pittie. My husband and I have a standard, 15 year old dachshund. I am hesitant to introduce the two.
We don't have any history on the new dog- he was surrendered by her previous owner. She seems sweet enough- that's for sure- but our dachshund is old, set in his ways, and is very food driven. I don't know what to do? Any suggestions?

Pit bulls are dog aggressive. It's a genetic trait and it's a normal trait. Is this your first pit bull? We have a "Training and Behavior" forum that you should read. I'll attach it below. Another issue I already see is the pit bull is still in the puppy stages and your other dog is 15. Pit bulls are very energetic and need a lot of exercise. If this is your first pit bull, you need to learn about their genetic traits and act accordingly.

Honestly, I would not have put a 15 year old dog through having a new dog in the home, no matter the breeds. Let the old ones live out their lives in peace.
What you might try is letting the 2 get acquainted through a chain link fence. Let them watch each other move, smell each other, etc. You might be able to gauge the pit's attitude. If the old dog dog is fearful or apprehensive or totally uninterested, just keep them separated. Let the old dog have his life back. It will be a pain, but it's best for that old dog.
Lesson: please don't bring home new dogs when there is an ancient one in the house.
