I have plenty of experience with bull and terrier breeds, as I have said. This isn't a 'my d**k is bigger than yours' competition. That's beside the point. I have had experience actually WORKING along side different specimens of the breed. Not just showing in a ring, or BREEDING, or playing fetch in the backyard or tug the rope for fun. So my experiences are what I would consider a bit more diverse and even extreme than yours. It is what it is and I am calling it how I see it. That's nice that you've been around a while. Just because you have produced a number of litters over the years does not make you an expert in ALL aspects of the breed, certainly not the working aspect.

Dont even waste your breath with that clown. He doesn't comprehend what you are talking about.

The most concerning issue is the fact that there is a market of people to scoop up and 'love' the most insanely bred animals out there. Toy dogs (because they're 'cute') Bull-dogs, Neo's - list is ENDLESS) And the maddening aspect of this is that the target market never stop to consider the Big Picture - the very real, unrelenting impact this type of breeding has on the dog, it's health/life... I know I am preeching to the converted, but it would be nice to have the dogs considered more by the average guy on the street. The maybe the target market for this fasionable breeding would die out. As it should!:(

PLEASE point out to me the post where anyone said "Hey! ALL NORMAL-HEADED DOGS ARE GREAT WORKING DOGS!! And NO round-headed dogs are!"
If you breed for shit you'll probably GET shit, whether it's shit with a normal head or shit with a round head. But the round head has no positive benefit for work PERIOD. A dog with a round head tells me that dog has been bred for looks for several generations, not working ability.

Thanks for calling my dog shit... I know that's probably not what you meant, but come on. There's more to a dog than being able to run for many miles in the heat...

I think everyone on here is agreeing that no one likes very extreme heads.

I also find these debates very useless and tiring. I think it's the constant debates like these that drive away all bull terrier owners from the forum. I think there are like 4 active BT owners on here... I do think it's a little funny we need to defend our dogs on a forum created for our breed of dog.

I think people need to learn to be realistic about their dogs. We can't praise something or give false information simply because we don't want to hurt people's feelings. If there are prospective future BT owners researching here why would we want to give out false information about the breed? Most of the people that defend the exaggerations in the BTs are breeders or people that actively show them who need to justify the state of their dog whether it is the exaggerated traits or the level of fat it posses so it fits the standard.

There are owners that own dogs with exaggerated features that still love their dogs 100% but understand their dogs limitations. This is the main point of a forum and it is to learn, people need to realize that exaggerated traits in any dog breed is not beneficial for the animal. It really is that simple and I do not believe this is insulting to anyone's dogs. I own an American Bully, I know that my dog has structural dispositions that do not allow it to have the athleticism, recovery or energy levels of a performance bred American Pit Bull terrier. Without talking to people that know this stuff I wouldn't have known this and I would have gone around parading around that I own a pit bull when i don't even though his papers say so. Or I would be overfeeding my dog because ignorant people think it's healthy for the dog to look that way.

We don't hate anyone, we dislike ignorant people that have zero common sense and no factual information to back up their knowledge like your self. Your family has been around shit dogs since the 1970's if you dare to call a well bred Bull Terrier a Jack Russell. But you see, this is what I mean about ignorance and lack of knowledge. Maybe you were spoon fed this marketing crap since you were little about how a sausage looking dog with a giant deformed head is the right way for a dog to look like. Thankfully you are not allowed to sell dogs here because I am sure that would be your next step after spewing nonsense and defending the show breeders that ruined a good dog for whatever reason.

@workingbullterrier-
if it seems Mr.Pedigree is a bit "childish" its beause we have been here for quite sometime andh ave dealt with many rude, insulting things from the APBT people who try to insist that Egg headed dogs CANT DO ANYTHING that all of them are ugly and terrible and have 0 drive.
im sure gerry is tierd (as am i) of argueing the point that not all egg-headed BT are lazy fat blobs with no ability or drive to do anything.

That's because YOU ALL come onto OUR THREADS (threads about normal headed dogs) AND INSULT THEM! If you don't want people to insult your choice of dogs, don't insult theirs!!

You're correct that's not what I intended, I'm sure your dog is a great pet and companion and if that's what you got him for than he is doing his job.

I am simply saying that if you breed for looks, you are going to get deformed dogs lacking in health and vitality. And that has surely been true for the Bull Terrier, whether you are breeding for the round head OR breeding in reverse for the normal head. Health and ability has to be the most important things and in Bull Terriers it hasn't been, not for a long, long time.

Great posting.

There is nothing wrong with being honest. If I were new to the breed, I'd want to know the truth and reality on all aspects....no sugar coating, or excuses, or mis-information. If anyone is 'run off' by the truth, well then.......

To keep allowing people that don't know any better to think that the exaggeration is a GREAT wonderful thing....well that could lead to a dead end road for the breed.

We all love our dogs here it seems, no doubt about that, but it is what it is. It's hard to get a point across sometimes when folks are SO quick to shut down and automatically go into defense mode right away without even taking into consideration what is being said. We can all learn from eachother, honestly. Being closed minded gets you nowhere. I understand that there are folks that can't communicate properly that are quick to offend people, but when people are actually going about a discussion in a proper 'adult' manner, why still pull the defense/excuse card so quickly? Or go right to the 'stop hating on our dogs' bullcrap. I don't 'hate' on people's dogs....bottom line is my concern is what I feed here in my home.....but I will not put blinders on and pretend that the breed hasn't made such a severe deviation, and not for the better if it keeps going how it's going with those who are in fact breeding for the most extreme profiles.

I think that my family's background and knowledge in the breed since the 1970s super seeds anything you think you know on anything to do with dogs...best thing for you to do mate is sit down and stfu cause your to sound like a broken record .
