    Hi everyone!

As some of you might know, I am a graduate student at the University of Florida and I study dog clinical problem behavior. Currently, I am recruiting dogs that have been diagnosed with Canine Compulsive Disorder (CCD). This disorder presents a great challenge to many dog owners and it is important that more research is done to find both the causes of this illness as well as effective treatments.

The current project represents the initial step in understanding the causes of CCD. We are investigating the underlying behavioral differences between dogs that have been diagnosed with CCD and the "normal" population. If you have a dog, especially a bull terrier, that is suffering from this disorder and you would like to take part in the research, please send me a message and I will contact you with more information.

Also, please let me know if you have any questions or comments about this research.

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you!

    Best,
    Sasha

That's fine! This can be done over distances. Would she be interested in participating?

From what I've heard/read, CCD cannot be diagnosed as OCD since there is no diagnostic way of determining the basis of a dog's obsession. Tuft's University has isolated a gene that represents in dogs with "OCD" but are currently not taking any samples for references.

Yes, you are correct. CCD is the proper term. OCD is just easier for people to recognize. However, you are incorrect that a gene has been identified. There is an ongoing search, but, unfortunately, it has yielded inconclusive results. One of the reasons it has not been identified is because it is being searched for in the wrong place. Instead of searching for the gene based on morphology, we need to be searching for it based on functionality. This is precisely the reason we need behavioral studies on these dogs.

You always have to read the original papers. I can send you if you want.
