I have always been aware of bullies and there tendencies to eat things there not supposed to. Once Scarlett ate a big chunk of paper towels, and I was not aware of it, some how she had eaten it without me seeing or knowing, she had thrown it up the next day and I considered my self very lucky...but this was a whole new ball game.

I hate to be dramatic but I was truly scared just now. I had been up all night and done a photo shoot with a friend, I was up for 24 hours and went to bed. Scarlett my red bitch was wearing a dog collar I MADE, that was a leather slip collar that was a bit big for her. I have always kenneled my dogs when not supervised because of the danger of them eating something there not supposed to. When I get out of bed I go to take my dogs outside. What do I see inside her cage? 2 Metal rings from a dog collar. I look at Scarlett and see that she is NOT wearing her collar. I start to look all over her cage and I find nothing but some rivets from the collar and both metal rings, but no leather, no dog collar.

I begin to panick, this is an 18 inch long 1 inch wide real leather collar and my assumption is she ate it, all of it. I could not find one single piece of leather any where. I get online to look for the amount of hydrogen peroxide to give a dog to induce vomiting. I read you can try salt first, so I give her about half a spoon full of salt at the back of the tongue, she gags one time, but she does not throw up. I run to my neighbors house and ask for hydrogen peroxide, he gives me a brand new bottle. I give Scarlett 5cc's per 10 pounds of body weight equaling about 50cc's of 3% hydrogen peroxide. She begins to vomit.

She throws up one time, its black colored vomit, and she throws up one piece of the collar, not enough. I give her another 50cc's since it says online you can repeat two times. She throws up again, a LOT of dog collar comes up, I clean through the vomit to see how much collar has come up, she throws up some more, another big piece. She vomits one more time and no more dog collar pieces come up. At this point I believe I have 90% if not, 100% of the collar, and she does not throw up anymore. I finally believe I have enough of the collar out of her system that we are now in a safe zone, if there is anymore collar in her system, she will be able to pass it because it wont be much. After it's all said and done, she is acting perfectly fine, just a little upset she got sick, and maybe worried she threw up so much inside the house, but I am thrilled.

My experience in the vet hospital and my fast thinking towards emergencies saved us a massive vet experience. I have no clue how she took her collar off and ate it, or why she would eat a whole collar, except leather is enticing to dogs. I am so happy I got a lot of it, if not, all of it, out of her tummy. Even with the precautions of kenneling dogs when your not able to supervise, bullies will still find a way to do something totally insane. Thank god I got it out, I have never used this method to make a dog vomit before, but it worked like a charm. Here is the end result.

When Ranger was a tiny pup around 8 weeks he ate a bunch of rock and I never knew until I took him outside and he pooped them out. They were huge for such a tiny dog I was really surprised he even was able to pass them, but good thing he did. That's weird how she got the collar off herself and ate it. At least she didn't eat the metal rings as well!

    Glad shes okay :)

My dog Spuds ate 2 diamond stud earrings out of my ear the first week I had him...I didn't notice they were gone until he pooped and I saw something shiny. When I picked it up I decided to look closer and sure enough they were diamond studs and then I noticed my left ear was missing both of them! Glad he was ok! but also gald I got my bling back :)

That's how I have usually found out what strange things my dogs have eaten. Little treasures laying in the yard. My first BT was the worst.

Here are a few of the things I remember:

    SOS pad.
plastic bag full of really old and smelly clams.
can of Skoal chewing tobacco, including can.
    aluminum cans.
1lb. of Whoppers Malted Milk Balls
    red felt hunting hat.
    rubber bands.
    nylon twine.
    fruitcake wrapped in tin foil.
seat belts of my pickup truck.
    dashboard " " " " .
    shift knob " " " " .
    door lock " " " " .
    gravel.
    oak leaves.
    acorns.
    Christmas Ornaments (glass) . . . .

I'm sure there were other things I never found, or, that he puked up while I wasn't looking.

  11. this is one of the reasons I don't leave any toys or a collar on Heather when she is alone during the day....

Yikes! Glad she is ok, Bella ate the hands and feet from a plastic dinosaur my mom let her play with. Mom goes oh I let her have this dinosaur before I could get it and take it away from her feet and hands gone. She puked them up the next day. :sonn_u11:
