It is with a heavy heart that I am writing this. I lost my dearest precious Archie yesterday evening. He had a seizure. I took him to the vets, he was unable to walk and had lost mobility on his right side. We made the very painful decision to have him put to sleep, the vet recommended this. No sleep for me last night, I am in so much heartache right now. He would have been 15 years old this coming December. I didn't sleep a wink without him in my bed last night. I was not ready to lose him yet. It really hurts. I held him in my arms when he took his last breath as I had always promised him. The whole family was there with him.

Archie and Ellie when she was a baby. He is the only dog she still liked after she matured.

Having to make the decision you did is never an easy one.
You were truly blessed to have shared your life with such a friend. As he was truly blessed as well, sharing his life with you. Having his final moments end in dignity and grace, held in your arms, surrounded by your love and devotion.
I am so sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry. He looked to have been one of those just plain good ol' dogs. It's so jarring and upsetting the lose one so unexpectedly, of course it's never easy and it's always sad, but I know it feels that much worse that you didn't have time with him to come to terms with it. That is a long time to spend with someone, and it feels like part of your life has just vanished when you lose them.

I know if he was with you he had it good. He was a lucky boy and he did have a long life. Take some comfort in that.

So sorry to hear this, it is always hard to lose them, no matter how many years you have shared, it is never long enough. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

RIP Archie, into Paradise may the angels lead you.

Thank you to all who have responded to this post. It has been a week today, and of course it is and has been very hard but it is nice to have support from others on this board.

You are so right. It never is long enough. I told my daughter I wasn't ready to let him go, and then she asked me "but when would you ever be?"

I am very sorry Phillysmom and I too have had to make the painful decision, so I can understand the heartache that follows in all aspects. May Archie RIP and may he forever remain apart of you and your family's spirits.

Very sorry for your loss. RIP Archie

Sometimes I wonder which is harder, losing a young one, or losing an old one. :( None are easy, but saying goodbye to the seniors is really tough for me.

I just became a member on this forum. I see you lost Archie in 2008. Very sorry. I'm wondering how I will deal with losing Chloe when she goes. She is 8 now. She has lost her prime time game, but is still going very strong. I hope she will live as long as your Archie did and I hope she will stay healthy. These dogs are our family:)

Thank You, he will forever remain a part of us.

If they are young and you lose them, then it is usually due to some unexpected trauma or illness. Then you feel cheated out of having time with him. Then when you lose an old one, its so hard because you are so used to having them for so long in your everyday life. Archie was with me through the good and the bad times. Either way, it is tough.

I recently lost Archie, not in 2008. I also have a Chloe in my life, she was Archie's companion and she seems to be missing him. My Chloe is 7. I see you are not too far from me, I live in the Sacramento valley.
