My AB Dozer.

I have a 5 yr old White American Bulldog.

[Awhile back, his eyes were fine. Now his eyes are almost completely glazed over, like, white.]

He's almost completely blind.
The vet said it COULD be diabetes.
I don't know.
But to run tests on him,
costs way too much.
It's ridiculous.

But anyways,
Has anybody ever been in my position?
Me & my dad want to keep him,
& hope he doesn't get any worse,
but then again we feel like if it gets worse,
we have to take him to the SPCA
where they'll most likely put him to sleep.

& he's SUCH a sweetheart.
Im willing to keep him if he goes COMPLETELY blind.
Is that wrong?

it's only wrong if you can prevent it from happening. If he does have diabetes are there measures you could take to save his sight? if so start doing them even without the test, i'm sure it wouldn't hurt. did you get my comment on your picture album? i commented on your brindle AB.

If he's diabetic, blindness is the least of your worries. Death from dehydration and kidney failure should be on the top of your list. You need to get his tested.

Is he experiencing excessive urination with kind of a pungent/sweet smell to it? Weight loss? There are usually several signs when diabetes occurs, and blindness is usually a late symptom.

No none of that.
It's just his eyes that are going bad.
He's not COMPLETELY blind.
But gettin' there.
He could only see either objects that are RIGHT in front of him, big objects, & bright things.
He has to use his nose to sniff out food cos he can't see where he's going most of the time.
Or when you give him a bone or piece of food, he'll chomp in the air til he gets it.
It makes me feel bad.

I did a little looking around, and apparently, blindness is one of the health issues American Bulldogs are prone to. If you aren't seeing any other symptoms, he may just be going blind. Still, a vet really should rule out any serious health related causes.

It sounds like cataracts to me with the white glazing over his eyes. I hope that he is healthy other than the blindness and he lives a long happy life. You could go vet shopping and try and find the best price for the tests he needs. Also some vets will let you pay as you can or write a post dated check. It never hurts to ask. Good luck with him and he is a great looking American bull dog.
