Muzzling to prevent BSL

I was wondering how many people would agree to muzzle their dogs when out in public if it meant they could keep their them and not fall under BSL?

I think having to muzzle your dog because of its breed is BSL.

Valid point. Ok, maybe I should rephrase then.. IF the ONLY way for you to not have to get rid of your dog would be to muzzle it in public, would you be willing to do it?

Out here you have to muzzle them in public and I do so I say yes. Don't like it but it beats not having dogs.

I would even though I don't see the point. I also wouldn't take my dog out in public nearly as often. IMO the muzzle law would make matters ten times worse but if I could keep my dogs...id have to deal. Right?

I dont have to muzzle here, Jim. But if I had to in order to keep my dogs then I would too.

    Same here destinoscelgo.

Absolutely, I cannot imagine my life without my dogs, I have always said they were my 'oxygen'. Reading the posts of the last several days has made me realize that it's no longer a matter of if BSL will reach us, it's just a matter of when. Therefore, I would do whatever was required publicly, so that I could keep my dogs privately.

Exactly!!! When you rephrase it to, "IF the ONLY way for you to not have to get rid of your dog would be to muzzle it in public, would you be willing to do it?
It's still BSL and is completely unacceptable!!! BSL is total bullcr@p no matter how anyone tries to rephrase it. If they want to beef up leash laws, make people be more responsible dog owners or anything along those lines I'm all for it though! If they rephrase it to "all dogs had to wear a muzzle in public" then it would be a little less insane and biased. But that would be a total overkill just like it is to only muzzle "pitbulls". That's still BSL plain and simple!

Just recently some Ahole township chairman politician tried cramming through a muzzle law for "pitbulls" not to far from here. BSL is illegal in this state and they were tying to argue that a muzzle law for "pitbulls" isn't BSL. Enough locals freaked out and it seemed to have at least significantly delayed this cr@p! He was supposed to give a presentation in March (that he never made) were he "proved that "pitbulls" were the most vicious and dangerous breed". He said he was doing it "for the safety of the children".

The township did pass a new ordinance that they say will actually be enforced which toughens leash laws (which I think is a good thing). Hopefully they stop there though. I actually recently got a piece published in the local paper about this issue as it was happening around here. Of course the editor changed around my piece and took some stuff out of context without my knowledge! Which I was pretty pissed about but I kind of expected it. He seemed like a total clown when I spoke with him!:no2:

So then, Im guessing you would NOT muzzle your dog and would instead have them PTS?

No me along with many other "pitbull" owners would fight it in court since where I live BSL is illegal and there's already legal precedent from a state court case where a township lost a very similar case.

If that failed then I would probably move if at all possible. I have absolutely no problem muzzling my dog when I feel that it's necessary. But I refuse to let some blowhard politician tell me what to put on my dogs face and when to do it. If you just let these people walk all over you regardless of rule of law then maybe you will be the next thing they decide to figuratively muzzle someday. Stand up to these cowards or get in line with the rest of the sheep!!!!!! Just to make it clear I'm not calling any of you sheep I'm just saying we have to be willing to sacrifice and stand up for our beliefs or we will all be walked on; just like we currently are.

Youre lucky to live where BSL is considered illegal, but many do not and many have to get rid of their dogs because it is in place. I think I would muzzle if it meant keeping my dogs, but, I would fight it if I were able.

I would get the most flamboyant, rinestone covered, glitzy hot pink muzzle I could find...or pay someone to make me one.

I'm not entirely sure why that would make me feel better....but it would.

I agree! If I couldn't move I would do what I had to do to keep my dog but I would go down swingin. I also wouldn't have my dog out in public much and would take her to muzzle free places for walks as often as possible.

Some dogs pretty much refuse to wear a muzzle and freak out with it on. My dog hates the leather basket type muzzles that fits over her head(and will throw a serious fit) but she's totally fine with the smaller lighter duty ones that just go around her muzzle. But those type restrict her breathing too much to wear for long periods of time on a regular basis. So what's someone supposed to do if their dog refuses to wear a muzzle? Are they just not allowed in public at all? It's such a stupid law!

I would muzzle my pups if need be though I would think it would make most dogs even more of a danger....A muzzles leashed pit bull gets approached by an unknown aggressive. I would think it would make most dogs more likely to be freaked out knowing they can't defend themselves them it would knowing they could?

If I was given the choice between my dog dying at AC or muzzling him in public, I would pick muzzling. At least I'd get to keep him and he'd be alive.

why wouldn't I muzzle my dog to be able to keep him? :p

there are a couple of places where they have to be muzzled.. not in my city that I know of but we have a lot of small off leash dogs around
    depends where I'm at..
    always have it on me
