Here's a short video of Max 'trancing'. It's not a great display of the trance because I caught him towards the end of it but I had never video'd it before so I wanted to capture him in the act. It's something about these bushes that puts a spell on him. Notice towards the end of the video how slowly he moves his feet. I'll try to get a better video later.

    How adorable!!

Mollie does the same thing with a plant I have inside, and she slightly lifts up one of her back legs every time she rubs up against it... I haven't been able to catch her on video because she stops every time I try to ... and the plant is dying. I'm going to have to buy a new plant this spring just so she can make out with it! :giggle:

Should this be encouraged or stopped?
Leon does the exact same thing with the vacuum or things he's unsure about.
Freezes, head down, waits awhile almost frozen, then slowly moves past it, then runs away as fast as he can lol.... it's funny but it seems like a fear thing and so we've been working on it.

Is this something that whole breed does? Is it like a tiny little brain freeze?

its a bull terrier thing, they like the way the leaves feel on there face so they go into a bit of a trance

I don't think this is a fear thing. Max doesn't seem to be afraid when he does this. He literally doesn't show any emotion. He is just in trance... He has this lost, empty look on his face and just slowly moves. The thing is, he deliberately goes to those bushes and does that every once in a while. It's like he knows exactly what's going to happen... So strange!

What Leon is doing sounds like a reaction to something he's unsure of so yes, it sounds like he is wary of certain objects. That's not trancing: The trancing is usually, but not always, linked to something lightly grazing their bodies (like the leaves of a bush, etc.) I believe it's related to seizures, not in a bad way, but the activation is in the same part of the brain....

Yeah I agree with you on that one. Leon is afraid of something. Max does the same thing when I pull out a trash bag and do the swooshing motion to open it, lol.
