When Michael Favor heard about a Facebook video showing a pit bull being repeatedly hit in the face, he went into action to rescue the animal.

Favor, 34, originally from Staten Island, used his connections in the borough to locate the dog's owner Saturday night and convince him to turn over the dog to the animal rescue group he operates.

“He was very emotional, he was crying,” said Favor, referring to owner Mark Katchusky, 42. “He claimed he didn’t put the video on the internet. He said he was upset at the dog because she ate a pillow.”

Favor, a recovering addict who started the animal rescue group Pitbulls and Addicts, took the dog, Mia, to the 122nd Precinct stationhouse.

“You could see scars all over her face,” he said of Mia. “There were some other signs of neglect.”

Police arrested Katchusky, from New Dorp Beach, for torturing, injuring and failing to feed his dog.

He has 18 prior arrests, police said, including one for violating an order of protection last Thursday.

Cops brought Mia to a veterinarian to be checked out. Once cleared, she will be given to Favor and his fiancée, Erica Mahnken, who first spotted the Facebook video. He hopes to offer her for adoption.

“We have families waiting,” Favor said.

Favor, who had a cocaine addiction for 13 years, said he lives for rescuing animals.

“Animals saved my life,” said Favor, who grew up in Bulls Head but now lives in New Jersey. “March 26, 2016, is when I stopped using drugs. Since then I've found a purpose, to be a voice for the voiceless.”

But persuading Katchusky to turn over the dog wasn’t easy.

“I thought it was going to get physical,” Favor recalled. “I understand addiction. Obviously this guy has a problem. But I don’t understand the abuse and I can't tolerate that.”

Another rescue group, New York Bully Crew, was also instrumental in rescuing Mia, according to the Staten Island Advance, which first reported the case.

Looked up the video, wasn't the worst thing I've seen but glad the dog is not with that guy anymore. Good stable dog though, she just sat there and took it. I never understand why people record crap like that, they must seriously be too dumb to know it's going to get them in trouble.
