I also remember seeing an article that listed the dogs as American Bulldogs as well, but I don't know where to find it, but I can continue to look. Any and all information needs to be found about this situation.

this is gettin big down here now y'all. The ppl in favor of passing Justin's Law are coming fast and hard and tryin to get it in under the radar thinking we won't know until it's too late and they've revoked our current law while supplimenting their own.

In fact, you can no longer find a copy ANYWHERE online of the exact wording of Justin's Law and what it will enforce/outlaw/etc ---- when just a few weeks ago, you could. Convenient huh?

They're going to make it a class 3 felony to be caught owning a dog who is deemed to LOOK like it is a bully breed or mix there of. They're also targeting Rotties. Not GSD's or Dobies - yet. They're hitting: apbts, asts, sbts, bull terriers, AB's, dogos, presas, etc. if someone says: "you're dog is a pit or mix" and you don't have the proper 8x8 totally enclosed cage dug and cemented a foot or more into the ground w/ $200+K of liability ins and the dog muzzled at ALL times when outside of the home... you're a felon and you're dog is confiscated and euth'd. no ifs ands or buts about it. They will not accept DNA testing to disprove you're dog's breed/s. There will NOT be any grandfathering in. You either go broke complying, have your dog picked up and put down for it's looks, or become a felon.

so if someone you know in TX has a lab mix, a boxer mix, a terrier mix that could be mistaken as a bully breed --- tell them to sign the petition and write/call their legistlators!!! We only have about 4wks left ppl before this either sinks or swims and sooo many ppl have no idea it's going down or think it won't affect them.

ok, took me a while but this is the closest I could find since the actual drafted bill is no longer available it seems: http://tylerpaper.com/pdf/pitbull-proposal.pdf

the bill is pretty much ver batum to her 2nd idea/proposal. it includes bull terrier and rotties though and all other 'bully looking' dogs. it's BS

Does anyone know who to contact about this? This tics me off. The leash laws are not even enforced, how are they going to enforce this. I live in the Dallas area, and every time I go in public people are walking around with their dogs NOT on leashes. There is even a lady at the school my son used to go to that would walk her kid with her 3 dogs to the school, and didn't even leash them. Sorry, no offense, but I"m not surprised as Texas laws pretty much are a** backwards.

I would think pretty much any Texas legislator. I'd contact somebody in both the House and the Senate about it. Just google it, you should be able to find the .gov Texas website with a list of representative. I know I found an article from stopbsl.com that gave the name of somebody in the Congress supporting it.
I plan on sending a letter to somebody, as well.

As for the actual law, I have a hard time seeing this going through as a felony AND without a grandfather clause. I know another member said something about some cities doing a ban without an grandfather clause and ran into legal problems with it violating the 14th amendment.

Also, to my knowledge, no other city has been it a felony to own a certain breed of dog. That is REALLY extremely and over the top.

Also stop breed specific legislation in texas

no shit.I know it probably wont work out this way but I'm going to do everything in my power to know where my daughter is,what shes doing and who she's doing it with, every minute of the day.Now I do think we should be able to let our kids out to play without having to worry about them getting mauled or killed by dogs, but, this tragedy could have been avoided had the parents been parents and taught their child skills for personal safety and to respect other peoples property. And they werent even freaking American Pit Bull Terriers! Why are people ok with ignorance just because its En masse?

Any new info? What's happening now? I pray this doesn't pass. Sure i feel sorry the kid died but to try to ban certain breeds because you didn't watch or raise your kid to respect property is crazy.

I would seriously have to consider moving my entire life to another state. I could not stand to have some one show up at my house and haul my innocent dog off because some idiot couldn't keep his dogs enclosed properly.

This would be a tragedy and to tell me I'd be a felon for owning a dog I've invested hundreds if not close to thousands of dollars in. But to avoid this I'm suppose to let some damn cop can come take my dog from me and kill him.

I don't think so. I'm a true Texan but if this was to pass I would leave this state and never return. This is the stupidest fucking proposal I have EVER heard of. You're telling me that people can do thousands of things TEN times worse than owning a damn dog of specific breed, and I'M suppose to be a third degree felon?

    This shit is stupid.

petition the AG and ask him why, the parents of these children are not being charged with parental neglect. Speccifically Justins parents and that little girl that mauled on halloween.

I hope for everyone's sake this law does not pass. I own two pits and love them with all of my heart. I can imagine giving them up, especially after nine years of raising one of them.

Just saw the news report. RIP to Justin and my condolences to his family. This pit bull ban is going to far. Facts are not looked at in these cases. Parents and owners need to be responsible for their actions. Most Americans could not pick a pit bull out of line up. Any medium.large, short haired dog that attacks are considered "pit bulls". From labs mixes, boxers, mastiffs, etc. When I was growing up, I would walk through my neighborhood and see BEWARE OF DOG signs. This is not the case anymore. I will be getting my pit bull in 2 months and happen to live in Texas. I support enforcement of leash laws, it pisses me off when people take there dogs out without a leash regardless of breed, it is completely irresponsible. Another thing is most people that own pit bulls are not responsible, too many pit bulls are in the hands of those in the criminal element. People abuse these dogs to make them more aggressive towards people and other dogs. Lots of backyard breeding that does not take into consideration a dogs temperament. I think if they put a law that requires owners of pits, rotts, gsd, akitas, etc to be put into obediance classes that be more helpful. If they ban pit bulls in Texas, I would not be surprise if other states follow.

What we can do about Justin's Law

Hi Everyone, Well I have been giving this some serious thought and I am going to be working on getting a Law passed that is fair for everyone involved. I am training to be a paralegal but my main goal is to become a lawyer. So I am going to do some research and any solid information that anyone can give me on Pit Bulls, attacks vs other breeds, breed specifics (all the ones mentioned in Justin's Law) and some ideas as to what the punishment should be for first, second or god forbid third time offenders, dogs that are confiscated from drug dealers or dog fights, what would to you be reasonable confinement for pit bulls while their owners are away at work. Class's that could be taken before, and during that pets lifetime. Education about dogs in general at school for the kids and parents.
I want this law to cover everything that the opposition might bring up to strike it down. So anything you can think of just make sure where ever you find it I have some sort of documentation of where you got it from. No Plagiarism. ok? I will talk to one of my law teachers and see if we can't get something going to present to the legislator and congress. I will keep everyone up to date on the progress.:)
