You know you can call your reps and tell them you oppose any sort of BSL legislation right? It only takes a couple of minutes. Also, if you write a hand written letter theyll almost certainly read it.. Just make sure to be polite and reasonable.

You are correct. The 10-yr-old boy trespassed onto the neighbor's property in an effort to try and play with the 2 dogs. Only the 2 dogs, American Bulldogs, have very strong guardian instincts.

i also agree punish the owners for negligence and not all pitbulls owners are that irresponsible

So the dogs were American Bulldogs and not pit bulls?

Will there ever come a time where people will get it through their heads that trespassing on someone else's property is wrong?

That's what I was thinking Denise, growing up I was taught to never touch someone's dogs w/o asking permission, and walking onto a stranger's property to play with a dog....butt paddling time for me!! It's a shame that this happened, but maybe his mother should think of her own responsibility in this, instead of trying to put the blame entirely on two dogs, ON THEIR OWN PROPERTY. Not saying that I don't think these dogs/owners weren't responsible in part for this tragedy...but responsibility and accountability need to start somewhere.

Agree. This is before I had the dogs but I looked out my back window and saw two girls playing in the yard. They were having a great old time! I went in the yard and saw two women not paying any attention to what they were doing. I told the kids "GET OUT OF HERE" and they ran as fast as they could. WTF? I really hope we get a privacy fence when we move. I know that isn't a guarantee but right now we have a very flimsy chain link fence. In order to "lock" the gate, I have to tie a bungee cord around it. Pathetic. And this isn't to say I would leave my dogs in the yard unsupervised. I will always do that. It is sad you can't trust anyone to enter your own property.

one would think having the dogs destroyed and the owners punished to fullest extent of the law would be enough justice for the average family. but i guess that isn't enough for them, they feel as if every pitbull (which wasn't involved in the attack might i add) in texas and america has to pay for the actions of some jerks killer dogs. the only reason why they called for this ban is because of the pitbulls current reputation. lord knows if labs or golden retrievers killed justin they wouldn't call for a ban on them. this is truly sad and no parent should have to endure the loss of their child, but to want every single pitbull america dead is completely bizarre.

Yes it is. At the risk of sounding like a total bitch since I don't know the people or total circumstances....sometimes there are those that will take hold of a tragedy like this and try to gain some personal publicity from it, and not concentrate on the underlying problems that started the whole thing. Hope I don't sound too harsh, but that's just IMO.

what is the SPCA, AKC and other organizations doing about this? I mean if they are trying to go national they should be stepping up and helping the breed shouldn't they?

That kid had no biz meesing around with those dogs. The dogs were in a fenced yard and he let them out. The parent should face charges! That should be the focal point of this.

Yeah I felt bad saying it, but if that were my child, I highly doubt my first priority would be getting in front of cameras and starting a witch hunt on dogs.

The media is always taking things to extreme they are gonna promote whatever they can to bring as much rucous and attention to an event. The more publicity they can dig up on something just gives em more work. It's B.S. I took my dog to a baseball game he's a puppy 4 months old today the dog pictured on my profile here, that's neither here nor there but a parent of one of the kids said you heard what happened to that kid in houston right? Not hearing of it i replied no. They then said he was bit by a pitbull. Then they give me their Dumb A** story on how theyshould do away with em, and blah blah blah. Afterwards i went and did some research on the story and it was a freakin labrador that had bit the kid. A LAB!!!! One of the most respected family dogs or so people say. But the media and dumb folk like this, that ASSUME pitbulls are always the cause of such incidents. I believe that the media plays a HUGE part in the reputation that this beloved breed has received and it's a shame. How many of these dog attacks that ARE proved to be pitbulls, are actually a full bred pitbull? You have people out there that train these hunting dogs to kill hogs and hunt other animals who's to say that these dogs aren't responsible for the attacks. Where's the punishment for that? You have various videos on youtube of hog hunts and dogs tearing into tied up pigs and these people get a kick out of it. Where's the punishment for that? The judicial system is all F***'D UP!!!!

Ditto. I wish more parents thought along the same lines as us. It's the same thing as the woman and her daughter passing by a yard and her daughter went to pet the dog (of course a pit bull) in the yard. The dog "attacked" her. There was nothing more than scratches on the girl but the mother wants all pit bulls banned. This happened in MI.

I got bitten once, when I pet a stray cat. It was an awful bit, one that go infected, and one that got me the entire set of rabies vaccines back in the day when they were given in the abdomen.

And you want to know what my parents said? You shouldn't have been petting a cat you do not know!

My parents always taught us to respect animals and to not go and attempt to pet/love on strange animals we do not know. And had they found out we trespassed onto someone's property to do such, our behinds would've been so sore we wouldn't have been able to sit down for at least a week.

My parents were the same way Mia. Unfortunately, many parents today figure their children have the right to do what they want without any real consequence. Personal responsibilty seems to be more and more a lost concept.
