so i have been lacking on the updates lol but we are entered in our first competition on the 30th, i am taking joker as he seems ready :) Cali is still pulling but the progress is slower to keep working up her confidence and she is more interested in long runs then pulling un like Joker who acts like he was born to pull, here are some recent pics of our last outdoor drag session.

we are competing in Balzac alberta and we are starting in the APA season i believe we are also part of the IWPA region 3 but that season just ended, and there is something about the pull counting for Iron dog as well but i really have no idea im really learning as i go lol... thank you

I was going to say, IWPA just ended until September but I had no idea APA was active in Canada?? Cool!

Have you ever pulled IWPA style? It can throw some dogs off since you have to start so far away from them.

no we have only been working with the a sled this will be our first time on a track. the club has a rail track and wheels on carpet so we will see how it goes im excited to see how a competition works and how joker reacts to the environment :) i will update on sunday when we get back :)

Have fun, don't worry about pulling too heavy. Some dogs are bothered by the sound of the cart on rails, or having to stay up on the track, so don't be too worried by that.

Yes... and I've seen experienced dogs (mine included) who still come off the track sometimes :D

Scheme had only seen rails, so our first IWPA pull she almost no pulled, because she tried to go behind the cart to visit her breeder.

^^ For a long time, I had to have only certain people hook my dogs or hook them myself, for this reason... and certain people also know that my dogs will be more successful if they are not visible while they are pulling

Scheme is madly in love w/her breeder. He's only seen her do agility twice, the second time he knew to hide.
He is the one that usually hooks her. However, I think the strangeness of the cart, and my walking away before asking her to work were enough to make her look around. Then, she saw him, and could not resist.

Oh yes... my dogs are pros at looking for distractions... sigh. Why I train on leash.

Sorry for derailing your thread :)

lol no worries, we pulled on rails with a 3.5" incline.
Joker did Amazing he didnt come off the track at all, the cart didnt even faze him and he was amazingly focused. he finished 3rd in his class ( 81-90lb class) he pulled 2310lbs (26.25X his body weight) i am very proud of him and he acts like he was born for this sport.
