A few years ago, we had three dogs brought into the shelter on a cruelty case. I don't remember if I posted here, but maybe someone will remember them from another forum that I posted on. The minute they came in, they were labeled "hybrids." I was nervous for them because I knew we couldn't adopt them out if it was true. I made it a mission to find out if they really were. I contacted several hybrid rescues and northern breed rescues. I Google image searched. People on other forums and the two rescues who got back to me didn't think they were mixes but purebred malamutes. Both of the females were pregnant and the one was pretty old. Long story short, their owner got them back because our law enforcement officials are crybabies and the owner threatened them. The owner confirmed they were all purebred malamutes.

Point of the story, if I hadn't done some investigating and the owner never showed up, these dogs would have been euthanized - for no reason other than their looks.

The male, Kodiak, he was a giant, bigger than my great dane!

Sitka, the old female

Aspen, she looked the most wolf-like. She was VERY shy and rarely came out of her dog house.

OH YEAH, wow NONE of them look like wolves to me, but REALLY they thought the first two dogs were part wolf? Come on now...At least the last one i can kinda see where they are getting that from, but the first two? DAMN were they off lol

Yes, animal control labeled them all wolf hybrids. And then I also worked with a bunch of idiots. You know the type. Any dog with scratches or scars is a bait dog, etc. We had a pit bull come in with a little green line tattoo to show he was neutered. One of my coworkers was convinced that meant he was a fighting dog. Because you know, dog fighters tattoo their dogs... and neuter them.

In their defense, they did howl like wolves. lol

Malamute mixes are pretty common when it comes to being mistaken as wolfdogs. But if you know what you're looking for phenotypically, real wolfdogs are pretty easy to spot. People being ridiculously enamored with wolfdogs annoys me because people always want one but can't handle how intense the care is. APBTs are a walk in the park in comparison

Another note that PURE white wolves is genetically impossible. They will always have grey/cream/black/brown in there somewhere. Pure white is a dog trait.
