Irondog International

  1. i know i haven't posted on here before but i was curious why Irondog isnt that popular with the APBT s anymore like it used to be? it used to be real popular of a working sport for the APBT and ABs but now all i ever find is ABs in it i know they are under new ownership as of this year and actually have a few events on the west coast now but again it seems like it went quiet for a while?
we competed in similar sports before and always had fun and this September we competed in our first Irondog sport going for the ID3 GDT, IDP1 and IDOB1 we didn't pass the IDP1 and IDOB1 i wasn't sure what it was really about and couldn't find a lot of info online but now that i know we are training for it we did achieve our GDT and Ranked ID3 and headed to the Irondog Nationals in Tennessee this November. Its a fun sport specially for a beginner sport that has some higher titles that require more competition style obedience and bite work. Anyways just wanted to see what you guys all thought?

I'm not entirely sure. I know that they made some rule changes, details I didn't follow closely because we've never competed with them, as there are never any events out our way. And yes, there was a change in ownership though from what I hear the previous owner is still involved with the organization. I always forget, IronDog is protection-oriented right? But don't they have weight pull too? As for the WP end of things, it could be because IWPA, NWDA, and APA are available and smaller orgs like UPF and W3PO are available as well. (At least here they are "small.")

  3. yeah from what i understood it was mostly weight pull and then some protection sport stuff , but it could be what i was just reading first the hang time used to be huge for the APBT specially the sprint races. i just curious if it was a political thing or like you said more went to the smaller organizations for weight pull which kinda separated the two ...

Last summer one of our friends hosted something at her house called PowerDog that included HangTime, Tug of War and some other stuff. I unfortunately could not go due to being super poor, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was political and people decide to go off and start their own thing offering the same thing. In my area, central NY, there has been a ton of splintering in the WP world. So much so that there is even a brand new organization (APDA) literally in the town that I live in (great for me since it's so local, when does that ever happen lol.) But if it's happening here, stands to reason it's happening in other dog sports/areas. People get butthurt, pissed off, want to do things their own way, etc. Hey, more titles for my dogs, whatever.

I did Iron Dog a long time ago, probably around '04. I had been very involved w/American Bulldogs, they would host Iron Dog at some of their shows. The main focus was the bitework. I think it's changed hands a few times since then.

  6. that's were i see all the Irondog trials now is at a American Bulldog show or event and its still main focus was the bitework, it sold to a group of people now that seem to be pushing for more events here on the west coast especially. but there are tons of other sport events like Irondog like you said with PowerDog there's Sport Dog as well same concept even Olympic Dog.
well i hope to see it more and i know we are going to be in it a lot for fun !

Probably because of the bitework aspect of the sport
