Interesting story about my final walk through of my new home lastnight. *Dead animal*

So we were doing our final walk through of the home to make sure the minor repairs were made lastnight.

I was opening the fridge to make sure it was emptied and apparently my daughter said something funny that I didn't hear, but I heard my realtor giggle as I was opening the freezer. I saw a radon box in there and thought to myself, why is there a radon box in a freezer, they wouldn't test in a freezer, so I proceeded to open a box and upon my first glance it looked like a toy fake rat and then it clicked that she had just laughed and was playing a joke on us so my daughter being the wuss she is was freaking out and I threw it on her and we heard THUD.

Ryan picked it up and realized it was a dead puppy. At this point I feel like an asshole for torturing my kiddo with a dead animal but I legitimately thought it was a toy rat, WHY on earth would you empty the contents of your fridge and freezer and leave a dead animal, surely you were reminded what was inside when you saw the box.

The whole thing was a bit unsettling, we didn't mention it to the listing agent because then he would know we looked through their stuff, but still. I want a new fridge now ( I know I'm weird ). Lol.

Wait, are the previous owners/owners supposed to come back? Maybe they were waiting until they were all the way moved to bring him and bury him at the new place?

Odd, but I have definitely know people to do that with their cats and such.

Omg. So not funny. But here is a story about that. My friend had a 3yr old daughter that snuck a diseased barn cat into the house. The cat promptly started having dead deformed kittens. My friend was doing her best to wrangle the now hysterical daughter and not let her see any more of the horror show. She was hiding the dead kittens by wrapping them up and tossing in the freezer. Well, she missed one when having the funeral. 2 years later, her daughter found the frozen dead kitty wrapped up in the freezer.

Yeh, pretty sure I'd not only be insisting that someone replace the fridge/freezer but also insisting that the previous homeowner disclose why the fuck there was a box with a dead puppy in it, in that one. If for no other reason than morbid curiosity.

I would want a new freezer and I would want to know how that puppy died. I would be bleaching the hell out of the house.

This would be my guess.

When I was a kid, my guinea pig died in late fall. That stupid thing stayed in the chest freezer for 8 months until we buried him.

They may have thrown away the food they had stored when they moved, but were waiting to retrieve the puppy so it could be buried and wouldn't thaw in transport.

You'd think they would have had to common courtesy to tell someone (and at least offer to replace the refrigerator).

Oh come on.. lol we put dead cows and chickens and pigs in the fridge all cut up, wipe it out before use and you might not die.

I really can't stop visualizing you throwing a dead puppy at your kid. That's so horrible it's funny.

I'd be more concerned with diseases that aren't killed by cold and could potentially come into contact with food I feed to my dogs...

JMO, but if I knew buyers were doing their final walk thru and my dead puppy was left in the freezer. I would have taken it with me. If you care enough about a puppy to keep it frozen, how can you forget it when you leave?

I would definitely ask for a new freezer, or whatever. Or ask the sellers what the pup died from. IF it was parvo, you want to make sure it's not in the house or yard!!!

I would think bleach would take care of most anything. But by all means, ask that they throw in a new one and tell you if the dog was diseased.

Am I the only weirdo that wouldn't be bothered by it? I mean, I would want to know the story but it wouldn't gross me out. I guess that's what years as a vet tech does to you. My sandwich stuck between a tumor and a fecal sample and directly below the tubes of blood and urine? Whatever.

Doesn't gross me out, I've had weirder things in my freezer, I'd just be worried about diseases being passed to my animals. Also I'm not above trying to weasel my way into getting a brand new large appliance. :neener:

Ok, now you have to tell us what you've had in your freezer that's weirder than a dead puppy.
