I've always loved rats, but now they have their own room at my house

I have Katana and Lilith, the girls. Lili was pure evil when she came home. Lili is a normal white rat, albino, and Kat is agouti hooded.

And Splinter, Shredder, Samurai, Archie Sheridan (or "Archer"), and Ben (from the Willard movie). My boys, Splinter is about 2.5yrs old, As is Shredder, but he's in pretty rough shape right now. The others are all brothers and about 5 months old.

I would like to start breeding healthy Rex's. don't have the same rules when it comes to breeding rats as I do dogs, obviously. Much easier to find good homes or to put them to good use.

Feel free to post whatever rat-related you want, I'm on a rat forum but it's really not that active..

Here's Ben back when he was cute.

All of mine are normal fancy rats, and a black dumbo, and a blue rex dumbo.

I would love a hairless, I'm just weary of them mostly because of the eye problems. But I'm sure I'll end up adopting one one day anyway.

I actually think my one is a Rex dumbo as well since his ears are at the side not the top. He is the cutest and like a dog, he knows his name, he's a obsessive licker and is super friendly oh and he doesn't go to the bathroom outside of his cage!

If the ears look like this, then it's a Dumbo:

(that's one of my past boys)

Like this, it's a standard ear:

Oh man! I've got ya all beat. I've got 200+...... But only a few are pets the rest are feeders and breeders.
It's hard to find a true hairless rat. However if you breed two Rex together you get a double Rex they are hairless but still have whiskers and eye lashes.
    I have black ones too.
    They will
Also be born with this fuzz but they will molt. Then be baby bottom smooth.
    This is the late Ralph.

some double rexs have patchs of fur, they look very akward and sickly like they are missing patches due to illness but no its just the genes.

why do people prefere to feed hairless rats to snakes exactly? (never owned a snake)

Oh gosh you guys have some cuties.

Chairity.. I've never heard of people preferring to feed hairless to snakes. So I'm really not sure. Seems to me that's not true, the only benefit might be without the fur, they're easier to digest.. But the trouble it takes to breed healthy hairless rats seems counterproductive.

Dumbo rats have a gene that causes the Dumbo ears, Rex is their fur type. Rex's are curly/wavy haired, if you breed rexes together eventually you'll end up with naked rats.

Sam, Splinter, and Lilith know their names. And Splinter is a weird licker too! But he doesn't have the manner not to poop and pee all over when I take him out.

I think the hairless are her pets not feeders.

Oh I know ;) I just forgot that he also has dumbo ears so hes a dumbo rex.
I think he might be a double rex since his coat is more patchy.
My sister has just regular eared regular rex rats and they dont look anything like mine, hers have the full coat and ears on their heads.

I will try and get pics of he will stay still.

The reason for some people feeding hairless is because snakes can't digest hair. So less hair = less waist.
I do not feed hairless. I mean I will but I don't only feed hairless. It's not a big deal for me.

Aww he looks a lot like a rex version of my Splinter.

I couldnt' trust Jaeger that close to my rats, the only ones he was alright with was Ninja and Mowgli, who are both gone. He tries to snatch the others when he has a chance.

    AWWW! hes sooo cute!!!
yup i would guess a double rex very darling!
the reason i ask about that is because everytime i go to the petshops i always hear them talking about feeders and most people ask for the hairless for feeders.
  16. Ali132

    Ali132 Good Dog

Ya only Wendy and Dee can go near them and if they start moving too fast they get all excited and want to chase/paw/play bite them so they only get to see them when they aren't on ground level.
Izzy wants to snap their heads off so she doesn't get to see them.

I never knew people wanted hairless feeders, and here I am trying hard to find a pet hairless I could just go find a feeder for $3.
