Hot car law passes Florida Senate, provides legal protections

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. —Florida Senators have given final approval to a bill that provides good Samaritans legal protections if they break into a car to save children or pets.

The bill, which passed Thursday, means people who see an animal or person locked inside a hot car can smash a window to rescue them without facing legal action if the car's owner wants to sue for damages.

The bill requires that rescuers call 911 immediately after they break into a car, and stay with the vehicle until first responders arrive.

This law should be passed in all 50 states! I see way too many dogs locked in vehicles on days when the temp inside a vehicle, with the windows rolled up, can become too hot way too fast!

That was my thought too. It's really sad that there even has to be such a law. I'd like to know what happened to good old common sense!

I think common sense went out the window around the time air conditioning was invented...

You're probably right, they apparently haven't figured out the car needs to be running for it to work though.
