Welcome, lots to learn about APBT, their mixes and cousins. Are you looking for an actual APBT? That's a lot of dog for a first-time owner. Are you new to dogs or just the breed? What do you want to do with your dog? Terriers and bull breeds are not really good protection dogs as they are very human-friendly, they aren't very good dog park/day care dogs either because they tend to be dog and animal intolerant/aggressive.

I always sound so damn negative when I mention this stuff. Sorry OP, I read back through and that is not my intention.
APBT are great dogs. I think that they are the most people-pleasing breed around. Which makes them highly trainable. They do have a testy/stubborn streak but once you figure out how to work that streak, you can get anything you want out of them. They get a bad rap, for sure, and since they are so powerful and driven, one must really always keep in mind that these are dogs, not people. We can't expect them to think or react like people do. A lot of times when that happens, we end up failing the dog. But the dog is the one that gets a notch added to it's rap sheet.

I think the place to start is learning the difference between the bull breeds and deciding which one you would like to pursue. Unlike popular belief, Pit Bull is not a blanket term for all bull breed dogs and any dog that looks like a bully.

Hi. Yes, I'm a complete newb to breeds, though I have some experience with training dogs. I have guard dog which is a mix of German shepherd and mongrel. I didn't know there're different kinds of APBT. You didn't seem to sound negative to me.

There aren't different breeds of APBT, that is it own distinct breed, also known as "pit bull", similar to like call a Doberman a dobe or a labrador a lab, pit bill is short for APBT. There are however, different bull breeds, SBT, AST, American bulldog, American bully, etc. and of course APBT.
Is your current dog. dog friendly?
Can we see some pics???? We love pics.
